What it's like to be a Social Media Intern at THE BUFFALO HISTORY MUSEUM As a Summer Social Media Intern at The Buffalo History Museum, you will play a vital role in enhancing our digital presence through engaging content creation and curation. Your key responsibilities will include developing captivating social media posts, graphics, and videos that reflect our museum's branding and mission. You will produce, shoot and edit short-formed content that showcases our exhibitions and events. You'll assist in managing and scheduling posts on platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter, utilizing social media management tools to track performance metrics and analyze engagement trends. Engaging with our online community by responding to comments and messages professionally is crucial, as is your participation in brainstorming sessions aimed at generating innovative digital campaigns. This internship will begin in late May and continue through early August, totaling approximately 120 hours. The standard commitment is 10 hours per week; hours may be adjusted to meet academic credit requirements for credit-seeking students. This position also offers a $500.00 stipend. Collaborating closely with the museum staff and the Advancement team, you'll help promote events and maintain an organized social media calendar for timely content delivery. To thrive as a Summer Social Media Intern at The Buffalo History Museum, candidates should possess a strong foundation in communications, marketing, or digital media, ideally through an undergraduate or graduate program. Familiarity with various social media platforms, including X, Facebook, TikTok, and the Meta Suite, is essential for effectively engaging audiences and enhancing our online presence. Strong written and verbal communication skills, paired with a keen eye for detail, will enable you to create compelling content that resonates with our community. Basic proficiency in graphic design or content creation tools, such as Canva or Adobe Spark, is a plus, equipping you to develop visually appealing posts. A proactive, creative mindset and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment will ensure your success in this role, as you’ll be contributing valuable insights and innovative ideas to our social media strategy.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program or a recent graduate preferably in communications, marketing, digital media, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated interest and familiarity with social media platforms (including X, Facebook, TikTok and Meta Suite) and digital content creation.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a keen eye for detail.
  • A proactive creative and self-motivated individual who thrives in a collaborative fast-paced environment.

Nice To Haves
