About The Position

The Social Media Director owns the planning and execution of the social media strategy for the DGPT and assists the Vice President of Marketing with strategy development. This role leads the DGPT Social Media Department, overseeing all DGPT Social Media accounts including DGPT, Disc Golf Network, JomezPro, and event-specific social media handles. The Director is ultimately responsible for all DGPT social media content, including creating and publishing content as needed. During live events, the Director leads the social media team, scheduling members to cover specific rounds, covering the most important rounds as the team lead, and ensuring consistent brand voice and content quality. The role involves collaboration with the DGPT Communications Director and VP of Marketing to develop and distribute announcement-specific content, executing organic social media partnerships, and managing all DGPT community interactions, including responding to comments and DMs, and leading live stream chat management. The Director is also responsible for outlining or delegating content planning via the DGPT social media calendar on Monday.com, managing the social media team/contractors and their coverage schedule, and collaborating with the DGPT Brand Manager and VP of Marketing to refine style and brand SOPs. Weekly event reporting is required to analyze social media performance and adjust strategy. The Director will also be involved in the development of new Social Media Accounts in collaboration with the Marketing Director and will own specific external social media strategy efforts like influencer marketing.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, media, or a related field.
  • Experience creating and coordinating multiple social media posts per day for professional businesses.
  • Experience with social media scheduling and reporting software.
  • Video and graphical editing experience, specifically with Adobe Suite: Photoshop, Premiere Pro, and Illustrator.
  • Understanding of global media and social trends, and how to apply them to professional disc golf.
  • A basic understanding of disc golf and the lingo associated.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • The ability to work well under pressure and tight time constraints.
  • Ability to work long hours (~10 hour days) during event days.
  • Ability to effectively manage a mixed team that includes full-time staff, part-time staff, and contractors.
  • Ability to read, comprehend, and create simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to effectively present information in many social settings (one-on-one, in small group situations, in large group situations) to customers, clients, and other members of the DGPT team.
  • An understanding of public relations risks on social media and how to mitigate exposure with communication via social media.
  • The ability to write captions in the voice of the Disc Golf Pro Tour brand in a way that connects with fans and followers.
  • Ability to engage with multiple partners, handle confidential information, and approve third-party content in line with company standards.
  • Willingness to travel when necessary.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with Elite-level disc golf competition and players.
  • Experience creating content for disc golf or previous experience working for a disc golf company.
  • Experience with remote work communication and planning tools such as Slack, Monday.com, and Google Suite.
  • Experience creating content around high-sensitivity information (e.g., weather delays at tournaments) in coordination with company standards and as a part of a coordinated messaging system.

Responsibilities

  • Leads DGPT Social Media Department
  • Oversees all DGPT Social Media accounts (EX: DGPT, Disc Golf Network, JomezPro, event-specific social media handles, etc)
  • Ultimately responsible for all DGPT social media content and creating + publishing content as needed.
  • Leads the social media team during live events, which includes scheduling team members to cover specific rounds, covering the most important rounds as the team lead, and ensuring that coverage is consistent regardless of who’s assigned to cover the round. Brand voice and content quality should be maintained regardless of who’s covering a round.
  • Collaborate with DGPT Communications Director and VP of Marketing to develop and distribute announcement-specific content in a fun and engaging way.
  • Execute a host of organic social media partnerships in service of the Tour’s wider partnerships and advertising program.
  • Ultimately responsible for all DGPT community management, ensuring that all necessary comments and DMs are responded to, and taking the lead on live stream chat management.
  • Responsible for outlining or delegating content planning for all DGPT social media content via the DGPT social media calendar on Monday.com.
  • Responsible for the management of the social media team/contractors and their coverage schedule.
  • Collaborate with DGPT Brand Manager and VP of Marketing to refine style and brand SOPs for DGPT social media outputs.
  • Complete event reporting on a weekly basis to highlight the impact of social media performance and coverage. Identify areas where content significantly under- or over-performs, and adjust strategy as needed.
  • Development of new Social Media Accounts when necessary (in collaboration with the Marketing Director)
  • Own specific external social media strategy efforts, such as influencer marketing.
