About The Position

Open Hand SNAP-ED program is focused on the low-income population in Georgia who are at risk of hunger and are more susceptible to obesity and other behavior based risk factors and diseases. The SNAP-ED Satellite Coordinator will support the mission of Open Hand/Atlanta providing nutrition education with SNAP-ED’s evidence-based curricula and cooking demonstrations around Metro-Atlanta and beyond.

Requirements

  • Ability to work with people from a variety of racial, cultural, and economical backgrounds with various lifestyles and of all ages, including professional chefs, social service providers, volunteers, and low-income participants.
  • Ability to perform simple math calculations as it applies to program reporting.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and transfer current knowledge to new situations.
  • Ability to enter data into a relational database, utilize Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, including the ability to make public presentations.
  • Requires ability to work individually in a self-directed manner and as part of a team in group projects.
  • Requires ability to effectively market a program and pursue outreach opportunities.
  • Requires excellent organizational skills, proven ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks, and to meet
  • Bachelor’s degree in a health, culinary, or nutrition field, or equivalent experience
  • Knowledge of local community services and resources/programs available to populations served by the program

Responsibilities

  • Market program and build partnerships in the community to build awareness, credibility, and demand
  • Coordinate all Cooking Matters and Healthy Choices for Everybody classes, materials, teams, instruction in Metro-Atlanta and beyond
  • Develop and maintain positive, collaborative relationships with community partners to ensure coordination of services for low-income clients.
  • Assist with outreach, and site visits to prospective community agencies
  • Manage class budgets for supplies per class
  • Help maintain program inventory
  • Program promotion: attend events and assists in the planning
  • Work with agency staff to schedule classes and carry out shared expectations and responsibilities for hosting a course
