As a SMT Process / Manufacturing Engineer II, you will play a critical role in both launching new products and supporting existing SMT production. You’ll own surface mount manufacturing processes from new product development (NPD) through full-volume production, ensuring designs are manufacturable, processes are stable, and equipment operates reliably with minimal downtime. Working closely with NPD, Electronic Engineering, and Manufacturing teams, you’ll define and implement robust processes, troubleshoot and resolve production issues, reduce downtime, and drive continuous improvement initiatives that improve safety, quality, delivery, and cost. This role requires strong technical ownership, using data to improve process capability, increase throughput, and ensure long-term manufacturing success. OUR IDEAL CANDIDATE: You're an experienced SMT process or manufacturing engineer with 5+ years of hands-on SMT and PCBA process experience and a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, Electrical Engineering, or a related field. You understand Design for Manufacturability (DFM), PFMEAs, and process controls, and you're comfortable owning processes from new product introduction through full production. You're highly analytical and enjoy solving complex technical problems, improving first past yield (FPY) and throughput, and identifying root causes. You work well independently while collaborating cross-functionally, and you take pride in building reliable, efficient processes. HOW YOU WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE: You will INNOVATE by: Leading, defining, and implementing Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principles on new and current product initiatives, specifically with PCBA assemblies. Defining equipment, tooling, and fixturing scope and lead equipment selection with internal / external suppliers, using data-driven tools such as process capability analysis and Gauge R&R to support new and existing products. Driving PCBA volume production readiness by addressing product and process design gaps through ECNs, DEVs, and PCNs, while ensuring effective manufacturing execution, nonconforming product management, configuration control, traceability, and overall process stability. Efficiently analyzing current state and utilizing PDCA problem-solving to drive zone improvement in safety, quality, delivery, and cost. Supporting the development and implementation of Lean manufacturing strategies to improve efficiency and flow in the zone (e.g., downtime reduction.) Facilitating process improvement teams by analyzing data implementing solutions and updating documentation to eliminate non-value-added processes. Defining critical project criteria and plans to recommend process improvements with payback justifications. You will EXPLORE by: Defining, developing, and implementing critical quality controls using PFMEA thinking and verification techniques to support current and new product development. Actively participating in the new product development process representing SMT as a core team member. Ensuring product and process designs promote a sustainable quality output within a safe working environment that meets delivery expectations. Collaborating with SMT team to create and maintain simple, effective standards. You will PERFORM by: Assisting technicians with setup, modification, programming, and validation of process equipment and production cells to support current and new product, along with identifying and correcting SMT production and testing issues. Ensuring product flow and production paperwork meets or exceeds requirements.
