About The Position

SUMMARY The Teamster is responsible for safely driving horses and operating sleighs for Sleigh Ride Operations. They also support back-of-house functions during sleigh ride dinners, assist with guest hosting, and provide service as needed. During off-peak times, Teamsters care for the horses and maintain the equipment. The ideal candidate is an experienced equestrian with a deep understanding of horse handling and sleigh driving. They should have excellent communication skills, a strong work ethic, and the ability to stay composed under pressure. The successful candidate will prioritize customer satisfaction, ensuring the well-being of both guests and horses. The ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and adapt to dynamic conditions is essential.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience working with horses, with sleigh driving experience preferred.
  • A combination of vocational education, apprentice training, and on-the-job experience in relevant positions.
  • Valid Driver’s License with insurability standards met.
  • Ability to navigate uneven and slick surfaces in extreme weather conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Safely operate horse-drawn sleighs, transporting up to 16 guests per ride behind a team of draft horses, ensuring a memorable and smooth ride in varying weather conditions, including snow, wind, and sub-zero temperatures.
  • Assist in back-of-house operations during the sleigh ride dinner, including food and drink preparation, washing dishes, and helping set up and clear tables to maintain seamless service.
  • Provide assistance to guests by helping them into and out of the sleighs and ensuring comfort throughout the ride.
  • Manage the care and well-being of the horses, including feeding, grooming, transporting, and performing basic first aid when necessary. Administer first aid for any kicks, bites, or scrapes and report any health issues requiring veterinary attention.
  • Prepare and maintain equipment, ensuring that sleighs are properly connected, free of snow and ice, and in good working condition before each ride. After each ride, unhitch and turn out horses, store equipment, and clean and tarp the sleighs.
  • Oversee the safety and health of the horses, ensuring they are properly cooled and stabled at the end of each shift.
  • Fold up to 60 blankets after sleigh rides and prepare seating for subsequent guests.
  • Sweep snow from sleigh seats and clear snow from blankets and cushions before each ride, ensuring a safe and comfortable environment for guests.
  • Blanket horses as needed during sleigh ride dinners to ensure their comfort in extreme weather conditions.
  • Maintain positive interactions with guests, co-workers, and the public, fostering an environment of professionalism, hospitality, and courtesy.
  • Must be comfortable speaking in front of up to 50 people each shift, providing information about the ride, the horses, and the history of the area in a clear, engaging, and professional manner.
  • Collaborate effectively with the team to ensure smooth operations and guest satisfaction, offering support to other departments as needed.
  • Adhere to company policies, SOPs, and safety standards, and report any employment-related matters (attendance, injuries, housing) to Human Resources in a timely manner.

  • In winter, enjoy access to 50 miles of cross-country ski trails.
  • Arrival:
  • Complimentary transportation is provided to and from the airport.
  • Uniforms:
  • Free uniforms are provided for your role at the ranch.
  • Opportunity to Transition to Full-Time:
  • After working a minimum of 1560 hours over a 12-month period, you can transition to full-time status.
  • Full-time benefits include vacation and sick pay, medical insurance (with the Ranch covering 80% of premiums), and voluntary dental, vision, and life insurance (employees are responsible for 100% of the premiums for these benefits).
