The Lundquist Institute for Biomedical Innovation at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center is an independent, non-profit biomedical research organization located in Torrance, California. In dozens of laboratories throughout the campus, researchers are working to unravel the mysteries of heart and kidney disease, cardiac complications in newborns, chronic lung disease, skin cancer, sickle cell disease, disorders of the autoimmune system, and much more. Many of these projects are collaborative in nature, involving experts from different areas of specialization. Our discoveries have prevented blindness in newborns, enabled premature infants with fragile lungs to breathe and allowed children with rare, often fatal diseases to grow up healthy and strong. The position of Degreed Nutritionist requires a Bachelor's Degree in Nutrition or Dietetics. Must have in-depth knowledge of maternal and child health and nutrition. Is responsible for conducting Nutrition and health education activities and performing nutritional and breastfeeding/chestfeeding risks assessments for low-risk and high-risk WIC Program participants. Must have a valid California driver's license, proof of personal auto insurance, and dependable personal transportation with current California registration for traveling to WIC sites and the administrative office for meetings. Must be willing to become proficient in basic conversational Spanish. Performs nutritional and breastfeeding/chestfeeding risk assessment and follow-up Conducts individual and group nutrition education and breastfeeding/chestfeeding support forlow-risk and high-risk participants in the WIC Program utilizing motivational interviewing and other participant-centered education techniques as appropriate. Documents care plans, assessment data, follow up notes, and referrals in the Women, Infant, and Children Web Information System Exchange (WIC WISE) database Reinforces Medical Nutrition therapy when made available by health care Providers Consults with physicians, Lactation Consultants, and other health professional staff relating to participants who have special health care needs, breastfeeding problems, and therapeutic formula prescriptions Conducts presentations to WIC staff on a variety of program and nutrition topics Is responsible for other tasks as assigned to support WIC Program site operations Must be willing to work flexible hours Position requires a background check and health clearance Equal Opportunity Employer
