About The Position

Thalle Construction Co., Inc. is pleased to announce a career opportunity for a Skid Steer Operator on the Central Everglades Planning Project (CEPP) Everglades Agricultural Area (EAA) A-2 Reservoir in Palm Beach County, Florida. This project marks the largest contract in the Jacksonville District’s history, valued at $2.87 billion. Thalle will oversee the construction of a 17.75-mile embankment dam and associated structures. This project offers potential Project Team members a valuable opportunity to broaden their professional experience and advance their careers throughout its duration. The CEPP plays a vital role in Everglades restoration, aiming to enhance ecosystem health, improve water storage, and increase resilience to climate change. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 2–3 years of experience operating skid steer equipment on construction or utility job sites preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience performing fine grading and material handling using skid steer buckets and forks.
  • Ability to receive, understand, and follow written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to work effectively with foremen, crew members, and other site personnel.
  • Strong commitment to contributing to a culture of safety and teamwork
  • Performing physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials.
  • Work long shifts with non-standard break times.
  • Work in a variety of weather conditions with exposure to the elements.
  • Must have good hand-eye coordination, quick reaction times.
  • Able to work in confined or enclosed spaces.
  • Able to sit for long periods of time.
  • Able to wear a hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, and safety-toed boots.
  • Able to walk moderate distances to reach work area (1/2 mile or more)
  • Able to Enter the cab of a vehicle that is 3.5 feet (or more) off the ground.
  • Able to sit in the operator’s seat of equipment and safely reach all pedals, switches, levers, buttons, etc. required to safely operate the equipment (if authorized for that piece of equipment)
  • Capable of sitting in the operator’s seat of equipment and have an adequate field of vision of all instruments, gauges, warning lights, as well as an acceptable field of vision out of the windows and/or mirrors (if authorized for that piece of equipment)
  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
  • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards
  • Must be able to talk, listen and speak clearly on telephone

Responsibilities

  • Operate skid steer equipment to perform small grading, backfilling, and site cleanup activities in accordance with project requirements.
  • Safely move, load, unload, and place materials using bucket and fork attachments, including pipe, pallets, spoil, and construction materials.
  • Assist with maintaining proper grades, slopes, and elevations under the direction of site supervision.
  • Follow all company safety policies, including taking specific action to avoid other workers, equipment, and potential obstructions.
  • Operate equipment efficiently and in accordance with manufacturer guidelines and site-specific instructions.
  • Perform daily equipment inspections and report maintenance or repair needs to supervision.
  • Maintain skid steer attachments, including forks and buckets, in safe working condition.
  • Support other trades and crews by staging materials and maintaining organized work areas.
  • Be capable and willing to perform general manual labor when not operating equipment.
  • Maintain a clean, orderly jobsite and comply with housekeeping standards.
  • Conduct all work with 100% integrity, professionalism, and attention to safety.
