About The Position

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is seeking to hire a Site Technician II at Iroquois County Conservation Area for the Office of Land Management. This position will use manual or automated equipment such as tractors, mowers, front end loaders, backhoes,road graders, and farming machinery for site maintenance and other projects, mow grass and prepare areas for seeding and apply pesticides/herbicides where needed, assist with the hunting program and provide assistance with controlled burns. Iroquois County Conservation Area offers some of the finest and most extensive prairie marsh and sand dune vegetation remaining in Illinois. Aside from supporting huntable populations of upland game, Iroquois State Conservation Area is inhabited by numerous, interesting non-game birds and mammals. Requirements

  • Requires education and experience equivalent to high school graduation and two years maintenance or farming experience preferably associated with the building trades and/or the operation of heavy equipment and machinery.
  • Requires a completion of a background check and self-disclosure of criminal history.
  • Requires appropriate, valid driver's license.
  • Requires ability to obtain pesticide/herbicide operator's license within 6 months of employment.
  • Requires ability to withstand exposure to the elements on a year-round basis.
  • Requires physical ability to operate and maintain tools, equipment, and material utilized in the maintenance, repair, and care of site resources, buildings, and grounds.
  • Requires ability to lift, carry, and transport loads exceeding sixty pounds.
  • Requires ability to walk over rough and broken terrain.
  • Require ability to obtain and maintain First Aid/CPR certification.

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of tools and equipment used in the trades and/or operation of heavy equipment or farm machinery and implements and/or warehousing.
  • Two (2) years of experience following written and oral instructions.
  • One (1) year of experience informing visitors of site facilities, programs, rules, and regulations.
  • One (1) year of experience in outdoor recreation.
  • One (1) year of experience in groundskeeping.

Responsibilities

  • Under direct supervision, performs a variety of routine tasks in the maintenance of facilities and grounds at Iroquois County.
  • Assists in the provision of hunting programs.
  • Monitors and repairs site facilities.
  • Establishes schedule for site maintenance and farming program.
  • On an intermittent of seasonal-basis provides-leadership and direction to seasonal workers.
  • Performs groundskeeping duties.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
