Peraton is seeking a Site Survey and System Installation Technician to join our team and help shape the future of U.S. airspace operations. In this pivotal role, you will ensure that FAA National Airspace Systems are upgraded in a timely manner. Work Location: Must be able to travel 90% of the time on deployments for both CONUS and potentially OCONUS locations. Work location is based out of the Washington, DC metro area. Job Description: Our team of technologists and aviation experts are supporting the FAA update of new systems to National Airspace System (NAS). You will join this effort by examining FAA facilities, making plans to prepare them for new equipment, and installing new hardware systems. Prior to installation, you will ensure that all site preparations are completed. You will install or oversee the installation of new equipment, activation, and hand off to FAA personnel.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship Required
  • Must have the ability to obtain / maintain a Public Trust clearance
  • Bachelor’s degree and 12 years’ experience or Masters degree and 10 years’ experience or Associate’s degree and 14 years years’ experience or HS diploma/equivalent and 16 years’ experience
  • Experience conducting IT system site surveys
  • Linux experience
  • Relevant hardware and software deployment/installation experience
  • Experience installing monitors, processors, servers, networking equipment, and cabling
  • Hands-on experience with rack-and-stack installations, structured cabling (Cat6/fiber), cable management, and labeling standards.
  • Experience configuring and validating Layer 2/Layer 3 networking devices, including switches and routers.
  • Must be able to travel 90% of the time on deployments for both CONUS and potentially OCONUS locations
  • Ability to lift and carry equipment up to 50 lbs; ability to work in confined spaces (server closets, raised floors)

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with National Airspace System (NAS) architecture and modernization initiatives (e.g., NextGen)
  • Experience supporting FAA, DOT, or other aviation or transportation programs
  • CompTIA Security+, Network+, or similar technical certification
  • Proficiency creating network diagrams and rack elevations using tools such as Visio and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Redhat Linux experience
  • Strong understanding of power requirements (NEMA plugs, UPS sizing, BTU calculations)
  • Knowledge of fiber optic and copper cabling standards (single-mode, multi-mode, CAT6)
  • Experience supporting federal government IT infrastructure deployments, preferably within aviation or transportation environments

Responsibilities

  • Plan and perform technical system site surveys, site readiness inspections for IT installations
  • Develop network drawings for the placement of switches, cables and other networking components
  • Lead on-site deployment work, responsible for evaluating infrastructure readiness, documenting requirements for network and system upgrades, and overseeing the installation of hardware and software solutions
  • Comply with all FAA facility requirements (security, workspace availability) and professionally manage all site staff relationships
  • Install monitors, processors, servers, networking equipment, and cabling
  • Analyze and test existing network environment to be used for the new equipment
  • Develop site survey reports using a provided template
  • Identify all installation risks/issues for the required equipment
  • Collaborate with external stakeholders and project team members to coordinate schedules, identify competing resource needs, and other potential issues
  • Monitor and report on site preparation work, installations, testing and system activations
  • Plan and monitor the removal and disposal of old equipment
