About The Position

As the Site Safety Technician, you will be responsible for ensuring a safe work environment on the project site by fostering a culture of hazard awareness and safe behaviors. Through direction from the ZAP Site Safety Manager, you will conduct site assessments, safety observations, safety audits, and any other safety-related assignments. You will also assist with daily safety meetings and orientations. Your proactive approach will be essential in maintaining ZAP’s high safety standards throughout each project.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 3 to 5 years’ oil and gas construction safety experience or demonstrated equivalency required.
  • Expert verbal and written communication skills able to deliver complex information effectively and align people with the needs of the project or team.
  • Intermediate problem-solving skills to be able to manage complex tasks and work through to solution with little guidance and direction.
  • Intermediate skills with experience speaking to large or technical teams through complex deliverables.
  • Intermediate user of technology and software required to execute daily tasks, including Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Safety and Security - Observes safety and security procedures; determines appropriate action beyond guidelines; reports potentially unsafe conditions; uses equipment and materials properly.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree, or trade/technical school preferred.
  • HSE Certification and Construction Health & Safety Technician (CHST) certification preferred.
  • Though not required, bilingual skills of English/Spanish are a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Follow all ZAP safety rules and sets the example for what behaviors are expected by the Company.
  • Assists Site Safety Manager with safety orientations for new contractors, ensuring comprehension through testing and follow-up.
  • Assists with daily safety meetings, covering relevant topics to maintain high safety standards.
  • Coordinates the required safety documentation, such as safe work permits, for all on-site activities.
  • Conducts daily jobsite safety assessments and observations, by regularly inspecting the site, monitoring contractor activities, identifying potential safety violations, and ensuring prompt corrective actions.
  • Monitors contractor safety practices by verifying completion and accuracy of Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) and ensuring proper safety measures are documented.
  • Provides direction to contractors, coaching them to identify, mitigate, and address potential hazards on-site.
  • Engages with contractors to provide real-time feedback and information on safety issues identified during audits.
  • Follows the ZAP Incident Response Process by reporting any incidents to the Site Safety Manager, and assists with incident and accident investigations, including gathering statements, performing root cause analysis, and compiling detailed reports.
  • Understands the ZAP Site Specific Safety Plan for the project, paying particular attention to details such as muster points, emergency response protocols, and nearby medical facilities.
  • Assist with other duties as assigned.
