The Historic Site Manager II at Vance Birthplace in Weaverville is responsible for the overall leadership of the site, including program development, administration, marketing, and community outreach. This position manages the everyday supervisory and business needs of the site including but not limited to staff management, event planning, building community partnerships, purchasing, budget management, financial reporting, and site safety. Work is performed independently and is evaluated by the West Region Supervisor.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in history or a field specifically related to the site of employment from an appropriately accredited institution AND one year of experience in managing the operation of a historic site, in historical research or interpretation, or in a field specifically related to the site of employment; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must be available to work the schedule of Monday - Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. with occasional evening and weekend work needed as required.
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Must be able to lead groups in a variety of weather conditions (cold, heat, etc.)

Responsibilities

  • Manage the daily operations of Vance Birthplace State Historic Site
  • Supervise all interpretive and maintenance staff
  • Supervise budget, service contracts, and purchasing of supplies and materials
  • Conduct tours and interpretive demonstrations for visitors of all ages
  • Envision, plan, and implement new programs, tours, and special events
