About The Position

We are looking for a Site Instrument Technician to join our Performance Materials team in Livonia. Come create chemistry with us! The BASF Livonia, MI site is a 24/5 operation part of our Performance Materials division that processes chemicals used in the production of polyurethane-based products. We are seeking a Site Instrument Technician professional like you to collaborate with operations personnel and contracted service suppliers to prepare and execute routine maintenance and non-routine maintenance. We will be relying on you to execute instrumentation and electrical (I&E) jobs and coordinate and oversee external contractors at the Livonia, MI site. "This position is part of a job family with multiple levels and will be filled at a level that is commensurate with the candidate's qualifications and experience. " During your 8-hour day shift as a Site Instrument Tech, you will Work in the Maintenance Department under the direction of the Technical Engineering Service (TES) Manager alongside other Maintenance Technicians and external contractors. Be responsible for instrumentation and electrical maintenance in the operation. This will periodically include assisting with mechanical maintenance as well. Operate and maintain site utility equipment. Use your I&E and previous automation experience to service process instrumentation and troubleshoot automation problems. Coordinate and oversee contractors in electrical, automation, instrumentation, or other similar trades. Prepare lockout/tagout documentation and issue safe work permits. Take a self‑directed approach to reviewing work orders, completing assigned tasks, and documenting all work performed. Participate in a monthly rotating on‑call schedule for equipment breakdowns during off‑hours, including some weekends. This position is overtime‑eligible and may be required to respond in some circumstances. Support all Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) policies and procedures while promoting a safe working environment. Work with materials deemed hazardous under RCRA, adhering to all site‑accepted safety policies, including PPE requirements.

Requirements

  • Possess a High School Diploma or GED.
  • Have approximately 10 years of experience or more of troubleshooting I&E‑related equipment in a manufacturing environment
  • Are highly motivated and have strong background in troubleshooting process control instrumentation and automation systems
  • Have the ability to climb, work at heights, work within confined spaces, wear air‑purifying respirators, work under supplied air, and lift up to 50 lbs
  • Have experience working with process automation technology, including Rockwell ControlLogix PLCs, FactoryTalk Batch, FactoryTalk View, and Ethernet‑based communications.
