Scope: Assist Site Manager to manage, maintain, and monitor afterschool program site(s) in accordance with the State of Michigan Licensing Bureau, federal guidelines, program goals, and the agency’s mission while providing supervision support and coaching to staff.

  • Implement and manage developmentally appropriate after-school programming at the center level, ensuring compliance with state and federal guidelines and program policies and procedures, including, but not limited to, Michigan Child Care Licensing.
  • Ensure daily health and safety of children, families, and staff, per agency, federal, state and local policies, including active participation in agency-level Safety Committee training and activities. Ensure no child is left unsupervised at any time.
  • Assist Site Manager in conducting ongoing monitoring, evaluation, and coaching of the site, lesson plans, classroom environments, adult-child interactions, and family participation implement program improvements as necessary.
  • Participate in Federal Review Audits and Self-Assessments.
  • Review classroom activities and materials to ensure diversity and activities fostering positive self-image of children are implemented in the after-school site.
  • Ensure that the site is welcoming to parents/caregivers and encourage their engagement in the child’s education as well as site activities.
  • Work with and demonstrate a commitment, caring, and respect for children and adults regardless of race, gender, age, disability, and cultural or ethnic background
  • Maintain a positive attitude towards assigned work, clients, and staff, and a willingness to work with others.
  • Serve as an advocate for low-income people in the community through means that may include but not be limited to membership in an advocacy group, participation in a professional organization, and efforts to affect present community services in a manner that would ensure their greater availability or efficiency. Act as an advocate for agency clients attempting to secure services or assistance from other agencies.
  • Attend Monthly meetings with the whole family team.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education OR a combination of education and experience that is similarly equivalent.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in a related field.
  • Requires knowledge of child care licensing regulations.
  • Proficient knowledge of internet applications and programs including Google technology and Microsoft Office Word and Excel. The ability to learn and utilize the necessary programs for this position.
  • Strong interpersonal and professional skills, including but not limited to communication, professional appearance, tact, punctuality, and dependability.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with supervisors, colleagues, and all agency staff. Ability to provide services for those persons facing economic, social, health, age, and educational barriers.
  • Ability to work with children and families with disabilities.
  • Ability to establish positive and productive working
  • Ability to work independently or in a team environment (as deemed necessary).
  • With all policies/procedures and state licensing regulations, perform work in a manner that upholds Wayne Metro and Head Start policies and procedures.
  • Ability to represent the agency in a professional manner.
  • Valid identification and reliable transportation.
  • Ability to pass the State of Michigan Child Care Background Check
  • Ability to travel to various sites.
  • Proficiency in a second language is a plus.
