Site and Grounds Worker III (Crew Leader) SALARY (Non-negotiable) $38,417 - $52,083 includes benefits package Pay Grade 7 HOURS 40 hours, 12 months, 260 days Contract Unit: This position is part of the non-supervisory support services bargaining unit. FLSA: Non-exempt QUALIFICATIONS High school diploma or general education degree (GED). Three (3) years of grounds maintenance experience preferred. Ability to communicate effectively using the English language when deemed necessary. Possession of a valid CDL license (minimum class B). Ability to maintain accurate daily records. General knowledge of the common practices, tools, terminology and safety precautions of the grounds keeping trade. Must successfully complete a course in the operations of a forklift given by the Board of Education’s Facilities Department. Ability to lift/push/pull a minimum of 50 pounds; ability to climb ladders and work at various heights. Ability to operate an electronic work order system using a digital handheld operating system. RESPONSIBILITIES Manage work and safety of 3-4 staff daily. Drive truck/trailer combinations between Wicomico County Board of Education sites. Maintain truck/trailer and all equipment to meet DOT requirements. Plan assigned work requests, assignment of employee tasks and crew record keeping. Report all personnel problems to the Maintenance Manager and or Maintenance Foreman. Report all equipment, truck, trailer maintenance, and safety issues daily. Maintain inventory of all assigned tools and equipment. Function independently or a part of a work crew engaged in school district property maintenance projects and tasks. Perform grounds maintenance activities, i.e., cutting, mowing, trimming, edging, blowing, and planting foliage. Perform shrubbery and tree maintenance activities, i.e., pruning limbs, shaping hedges, cutting branches. Perform pavement and asphalt maintenance activities, i.e. cutting out edges, patching sidewalks, patching potholes. Perform structural maintenance activities, i.e., repairing fences and gates, preparing athletic fields. Operate various electric, gas and manually powered tools and equipment, i.e., saws, sprayers, air compressors, mowers, blowers, weed-eaters, hedge trimmers, power washers. Operate truck with snow plow. Ensure proper cleaning and maintenance of equipment, tools, and materials utilized Have knowledge of pesticides & herbicides with the ability to keep spraying records for the MDA. Must possess or obtain a certified applicator license for pesticides/herbicides within 18 months of hire. Ensure adherence to principles and practices of safe use and operation of equipment, tools, and materials. Assist Operations/Maintenance personnel as assigned. Maintain regular on-time attendance. Perform related work as required.
