About The Position

Simulation Specialist D’Youville University College of Osteopathic Medicine (DYU-COM) Summary: The College of Osteopathic Medicine at D’Youville University is seeking a Simulation Specialist (Operations) to support the daily operations of the Simulation Center. This position works closely with the Simulation Director to assist in the preparation, setup, and execution of simulation activities, including those utilizing high-fidelity mannequins and clinical training environments. The Simulation Specialist provides essential operational and technical support to ensure that all simulation sessions run smoothly and efficiently. This role does not include teaching responsibilities, but is critical to maintaining a high-functioning simulation program that supports student training and faculty delivery. A key component of this role includes supporting the planning and execution of Objective Structured Clinical Examinations (OSCEs), ensuring that all logistical, technical, and environmental elements are properly coordinated. The Simulation Specialist collaborates with faculty, clinical skills educators, and academic leadership to ensure that simulation and OSCE activities are well-organized, effectively executed, and aligned with curricular goals. This position plays a vital role in supporting clinical training and integrated learning experiences across the preclinical curriculum. This position reports to the Director of Simulation and works collaboratively with faculty and the clinical skills team.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in healthcare, education, biomedical sciences, or a related field
  • Minimum of 2–3 years of experience in a healthcare (e.g., medical assistant, EMT, LPN)
  • Ability to manage operational workflows with precision and consistency
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to high-quality execution
  • Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students
  • Comfort learning and adapting to new technologies and simulation platforms
  • Professional communication and problem-solving skills

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field
  • Experience working as a medical assistant, EMT, nursing support staff, or similar role healthcare clinical roles.
  • Prior experience with simulation equipment or clinical training environments
  • Familiarity with audiovisual systems and basic troubleshooting

Responsibilities

  • Simulation Operations and Delivery Prepare, operate, and maintain high-fidelity simulation mannequins and task trainers
  • Execute simulation scenarios, including programming physiological responses and clinical events
  • Support simulation sessions, including OSCEs and case-based learning activities
  • Reset simulation environments to ensure consistency across student groups
  • Day-to-Day Simulation Center Operations Coordinate daily simulation schedules and ensure readiness of all training spaces
  • Prepare equipment, supplies, and procedural materials for sessions
  • Maintain organization, cleanliness, and functionality of simulation labs
  • Monitor and manage inventory of clinical and simulation supplies
  • Faculty and Student Support Collaborate with faculty to prepare and implement simulation-based learning activities
  • Provide real-time technical support during simulation sessions
  • Assist with audiovisual systems, recording, and playback for debriefing
  • Support student orientation to simulation equipment and environment
  • Equipment and Technology Management Maintain, troubleshoot, and perform routine upkeep of simulation equipment and software
  • Coordinate repairs and service with external vendors as needed
  • Ensure proper functioning of AV systems and simulation technologies
  • Program and Administrative Support Maintain records of simulation activities, equipment usage, and lab operations
