About The Position

D’Youville University College of Osteopathic Medicine (DYU-COM) invites applications for a full-time Assistant Professor of Biomedical Sciences with a focus on academic success and student support. This position is designed to enhance student performance in the pre-clinical curriculum by providing structured academic support, reinforcing foundational science content, and contributing to board preparation initiatives. The successful candidate will work closely with faculty and academic leadership to support student learning in anatomy, physiology, microbiology, and biochemistry, while helping students develop effective study strategies and mastery of core medical concepts. The role also supports student engagement with health sciences resources and evidence-based medicine as part of the institution’s integrated curriculum. This position reports to the Associate Dean of Preclinical and Integrated Medical Education.

Requirements

  • PhD in a biomedical science discipline (e.g., Anatomy, Physiology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, or related field)
  • Minimum of 3 - 5 years of teaching experience in undergraduate or graduate biomedical sciences
  • Strong foundation in core medical science content to undergraduate and graduate
  • Demonstrated ability to support diverse learners and promote academic success
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with medical or health professions students
  • Familiarity with COMLEX-USA and/or USMLE exam preparation
  • Experience in academic support, mentoring, tutoring, and/or curriculum support
  • Interest in medical education and student development

Responsibilities

  • Provide individual and small-group academic support to medical students in Years 1 and 2
  • Reinforce foundational biomedical science concepts, including anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, microbiology, cell biology and biochemistry
  • Support student preparation for COMLEX-USA examinations
  • Develop and deliver review sessions, workshops, and academic support programming
  • Collaborate with faculty to align academic support with the integrated medical curriculum
  • Identify and support students in need of academic intervention
  • Guide students in effective learning strategies, time management, and test-taking skills
  • Support student development in evidence-based medicine and critical appraisal of medical literature review
  • Coordinate with library services to support medical student access to health sciences resources, including guidance in literature search strategies and evidence-based tools
  • Participate in institutional service and contribute to student success initiatives
