About The Position

This position supports virtual battlefield simulation operations by managing the full lifecycle of training events, from initial system setup through post-exercise review, ensuring that every training event is immersive, technically sound, and aligned with defined learning objectives. As a VBS3 Simulation Operator, you will configure and operate the Virtual Battlespace 3 platform across all phases of a training exercise, including scenario construction, real-time mission management, AI scripting, and after-action review facilitation. During exercises, you will actively shape the training experience by assuming entity roles, introducing dynamic injects, and making live adjustments to challenge trainees and reinforce learning outcomes. You will also ensure network connectivity and interoperability with C4I systems, enabling integrated and distributed training across multiple locations. Outside of scheduled events, you will perform routine system maintenance and provide hands-on instruction to Soldiers on simulation system use. Candidates must possess a high school diploma with a minimum of seven years of military or simulation center experience in fire support operations, at least one year of experience operating the CFFT III and its immersive variants, one year of VBS3 scenario development experience, and an active Secret security clearance.

Requirements

  • High school diploma and a minimum of seven years (7) military or simulation center experience in Fire Support operations and planning.
  • Minimum one year (1) experience supporting training exercise operating the CFFT III and one or more years operating/maintaining an Immersive CFFT III systems (AFSM, UTM, and CASM).
  • Minimum one year (1) experience developing and executing functional vignettes for and supporting training exercise and operating the VBS3.
  • Active Secret Security Clearance

Responsibilities

  • Conduct start-up and shut-down procedures for VBS3 Server / Host / Clients
  • Build scenario as required
  • Script AI to function as needed
  • Select correct map location
  • Select correct training scenario
  • Place clients in roles
  • Instruct clients on movement and map controls
  • Instruct clients on digital radio uses and functionality
  • Manipulate weather and time in scenario as required
  • Create and introduce scripting for AI entities in scenario
  • Monitor scenario for training objective criteria
  • Ensure network connectivity
  • Ensure connectivity through LAN network to communicate with C4I equipment and software including AFATDS and ExCIS
  • Present option for video playback / AAR
  • Scenario Development: Using the mission editor and other tools to create realistic training scenarios that meet specific training objectives.
  • System Configuration: Placing entities like vehicles, weapons, and characters into the virtual battlespace and configuring the system's environmental options, such as time, date, weather, and sea states
  • Network Setup: Ensuring that the networked system is correctly configured for multiplayer, distributed exercises, allowing trainees to connect from remote locations if necessary.
  • Mission Execution: Launching the scenario and managing it in real-time, observing the trainees' actions from any viewpoint, and controlling Artificial Intelligence (AI)-driven characters as needed.
  • Role-Playing: Assuming the role of various entities within the simulation to increase realism and challenge for the trainees.
  • Interoperability: Operating the system in a "combined/interoperable" mode, where VBS3 training exercises are integrated with other simulation tools to meet more complex training objectives.
  • Live Adjustments: Modifying the scenario in real-time based on trainee performance to apply pressure or adapt the training.
  • Provide and Collect Critique Sheets: Provide instructors the critique sheets. Completed critique sheets from the instructors after the training event has concluded.
  • Data Capture of system usage in both Training Support-Materiel Army-wide Tracking System (TS-MATS) and the FCOE SharePoint
  • System Maintenance and Testing: Performing routine system checks, ensuring all software and hardware are functioning correctly, and testing new software versions as required by the contract.
  • Support and Instruction: Support capability demonstrations and provide instructions to soldiers on how to effectively use the simulation systems.
