About The Position

The Shredder Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for leading and coordinating all maintenance activities related to the shredder system and associated downstream and upstream equipment within a metals recycling facility. This role ensures optimal equipment performance, minimizes downtime, enforces safety standards, and provides hands‑on leadership to maintenance personnel supporting high‑volume shredding operations.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required; technical certification or vocational training preferred.
  • 5+ years of heavy industrial maintenance experience, preferably in metals recycling, shredding, steel mills, or aggregates.
  • Prior supervisory or lead maintenance experience.
  • Strong mechanical knowledge of rotating equipment, hydraulics, pneumatics, and welding processes.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, schematics, and manuals.
  • Ability to work in a physically demanding industrial environment, including exposure to heat, dust, noise, and heavy equipment.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs, climb ladders, work at heights, and enter confined spaces.
  • Willingness to work extended hours, weekends, or off‑shift coverage during outages or emergencies.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with large auto shredders and downstream separation systems.
  • CMMS experience.
  • OSHA 10/30, MSHA training, or equivalent safety certifications.
  • Basic electrical and PLC troubleshooting knowledge.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise daily, weekly, and shutdown maintenance activities for shredders, conveyors, magnets, screens, eddy currents, and related systems.
  • Plan and execute preventive and predictive maintenance programs to improve uptime and extend equipment life.
  • Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, and basic electrical issues; lead troubleshooting efforts during breakdowns.
  • Coordinate rebuilds, liner changes, hammer and rotor maintenance, bearing replacements, and wear‑part management.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, work orders, and inspection logs within the CMMS.
  • Enforce all safety policies, lockout/tagout (LOTO), confined space, hot work, and PPE requirements.
  • Conduct job safety analyses (JSAs) and pre‑task safety meetings.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, MSHA (if applicable), and environmental regulations.
  • Actively participate in safety audits, incident investigations, and corrective action plans.
  • Work closely with Operations, Production, and Procurement teams to schedule maintenance around production demands.
  • Coordinate parts inventory, vendor relationships, and emergency repair services.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on reliability, cost control, and throughput.
