Shop Support Technician
About The Position
Augment Professional Services (APS) delivers high-quality project support and managed services solutions across the Energy, EPC, and Industrial sectors. We partner with our clients to provide skilled professionals who enhance operational efficiency, support critical maintenance activities, and contribute to safe, well-organized work environments. APS is seeking a Shop Support Technician (Contract) to support a turbomachinery repair facility in Houston, TX. This role is responsible for general shop upkeep, equipment preparation, facility improvements, and documentation digitization efforts. The ideal candidate is hands-on, mechanically inclined, and comfortable working in an industrial shop environment. This position will support ongoing maintenance, organization, and improvement initiatives within the facility.
Requirements
- Prior experience working in an industrial, shop, or warehouse environment
- Ability to safely use basic hand and power tools
- Experience with general shop cleanup, painting, or maintenance tasks
- Forklift certification (or ability to obtain prior to start)
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical work throughout the shift
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety
Nice To Haves
- Experience in a machine shop or turbomachinery repair environment
- Familiarity with drill presses, lathes, or similar shop equipment
- Experience using paint guns and surface preparation techniques
- Basic fabrication or carpentry experience
- Experience with document scanning or records digitization
Responsibilities
- Shop Maintenance & Organization Perform general shop cleanup and organization
- Maintain clean and safe work areas across the facility
- Support layout improvements, including reconfiguring workspaces
- Painting & Surface Preparation Hand clean equipment and surfaces using solvents
- Tape off critical components and areas prior to painting
- Apply coatings using paint guns to equipment and shop surfaces
- Paint shop walls and equipment as needed
- Equipment & Facility Support Assist with preparation and organization of shop equipment (e.g., cabinets, carts, sawhorses)
- Support work around drill presses and lathes (as needed)
- Remove cubicle walls and assist with facility reconfiguration
- Clean floors and remove or refurbish old tables and fixtures
- Material Handling & Fabrication Support Cut lumber (e.g., 4x4s) to specified dimensions for platforms or supports
- Relocate fixtures and tooling within and outside the facility
- Operate a forklift (certification required) to move equipment and materials
- Documentation & Administrative Support Remove staples and prepare legacy documents for scanning
- Digitize records by scanning and organizing files
