Job Description Job Summary This position is responsible for safely inspecting, repairing, and mechanically supporting the company with locomotives, railcars, and other company equipment as necessary.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma Required
  • 3 years engine maintenance experience, preferably diesel engine experience.
  • Wire welding certified or able to pass a welding certification within 90 days of accepting position.
  • This position is subject to DOT drug and alcohol testing requirements under 49 CFR Part 40 and FRA (Part 219) and FMCSA (Part 382) regulations.
  • Must possess valid driver’s license and have the ability to acquire a CDL within 60 days of employment.
  • Ability to train on and use equipment such as welders, torches, forklifts, scissor lift, as well as various types of hand, power and hydraulic tools.
  • Ability to obtain locomotive engineer and conductor license.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate safe work practices while completing all tasks.
  • Work is performed indoors and outdoors as necessary in all weather conditions, including snow, ice, rain, cold and heat.
  • Work with a positive attitude and be comfortable with contributing to a team of 10-15, smaller groups, or as an individual.
  • Understand, and be in compliance with, CRANDIC rules and procedures, GCOR, and FRA standards as they relate to position responsibilities.
  • Perform various welding activities, oxygen/acetylene torch cutting, plasma cutting and metal fabrication.
  • Analyze and review prints, diagrams and other reference material, such as technical drawings and manuals, to troubleshoot and repair locomotive problems and troubleshoot and repair railcar issues.
  • Perform inspection and maintenance on locomotives, railcars, and other company equipment.
  • Complete inspection and repair documentation and billing accurately and efficiently.
  • Read and understand various gauges and instruments.
  • Drive company vehicle as assigned.
  • Operate power equipment and tools.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
