About The Position

Repairs and maintains electric, diesel, and gasoline engines and equipment related but not limited to agricultural, industrial and on road vehicles. Follows manuals, and uses hand tools, power tools, and knowledge of electrical, power transmission, brake, and other automotive systems as well as hydraulic. Reads job order and observes and listens to engines and motorized equipment in operation to determine malfunction and plans work procedures.

  • Must have a willingness to learn new processes as needed.
  • Ability to understand verbal instructions and written documents such as safety rules, labels, SDS, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Must be able to understand, read and write English to document results on forms and logs.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
  • Capable of using practical judgment to follow instructions provided in written, verbal, or diagrammatic formats
  • Must be able to work long hours including weekends and possess a valid driver license.
  • ASE Certification or at least five years of experience.

Responsibilities

  • Overhauls gas and diesel engines, as well as transmissions and differentials using mechanic's hand tools, welding equipment, standard charts, and hoists.
  • Determines required equipment and welding method, applying knowledge of metallurgy, geometry, and welding techniques.
  • Examines protective guards, loose bolts, and specified safety devices on automotive, commercial and agricultural vehicles, and adjusts, using hand tools.
  • Checks and repairs ignition problems associated with starters, alternators and short circuits.
  • Changes or recharges batteries, and other charging related components using hand tools.
  • Analyzes drawings and specifications to plan layout in disassembling and assembling mechanical components related to diesel and gas engines
  • Hydraulic knowledge to perform tests in checking hydraulic pumps, motors, valves, and cylinders.
  • Tests and identifies mechanical and electrical problems and uses knowledge and experience to prevent future related issues.
  • Lubricates moving parts and drives repaired trucks to verify conformance to specifications.
  • May fabricate special lifting or towing attachments, hydraulic systems, shields, or other devices according to blueprints or schematic drawings.
  • Possesses a thorough understanding of the braking system and applies their knowledge in inspecting, testing and replacing braking related components.
  • Ability to inspect, replace and install air conditioning components related to automotive, commercial and agricultural vehicles.
  • Keep hand and powered tools clean and organized in their appropriate location.
  • Tests, replaces and installs fuel system components related to automotive, commercial and agricultural vehicles.
  • Be able to read a parts book and identity the parts needed to complete the repair.
  • Be able to read and understand a repairs manual book and follow the steps needed to complete the repair.
  • Complete a Request for Repairs Form for each piece of equipment worked on.
  • Inform the supervisor immediately of any materials and or parts needed to complete a repair.
  • Put safety first! Always wear safety equipment!
