About The Position

We are looking for a highly organized and results-driven Shop Manager to lead our team of mechanics and oversee the repair and maintenance of fleet vehicles and heavy equipment both in the shop and in the field, locally. Must have strong leadership skills, hands-on experience with heavy equipment, and a proactive approach to fleet maintenance and operational efficiency. As Shop Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring all equipment and vehicles are properly maintained, compliant with safety standards, and ready for mobilization. This role involves scheduling and prioritizing repairs, assisting with diagnostics, managing maintenance costs, and supporting a culture of safety and accountability.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in shop management or heavy equipment repairs.
  • Technical School Certificate and 2 years of related work experience or 5 years of related work experience.
  • Strong knowledge of equipment maintenance, safety standards, and fleet diagnostic software.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and manage shop mechanics, providing daily direction and support.
  • Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide regular feedback through one-on-one meetings, performance reviews and skill assessments.
  • Proactively identify knowledge gaps and coordinate technical or safety training plans to upskill shop personnel.
  • Assist with ongoing training for staff on heavy equipment operation, safety practices, and company procedures.
  • Monitor staffing levels and collaborate with Fleet Director and HR to assess staffing needs, participate in interviews, and onboard new employees.
  • Ensure shop staff are adhering to all company policies and procedures, including safety policies, timekeeping, equipment usage, and uniform standards.
  • Facilitate team huddles or toolbox talks to review safety updates, discuss job priorities and reinforce goals and best practices.
  • Maintain shop organization and workflow efficiency.
  • Review and approve repair orders, ensuring work is completed thoroughly and documented accurately before equipment is returned to service.
  • Supervise inventory levels of parts and tools, approve orders and maintain relationships with key vendors for parts, services, and warranty work.
  • Inspect and ensure equipment entering the yard is maintained properly, functioning efficiently, and safely.
  • Develop and maintain repair schedules in coordination with the Fleet Director.
  • Dispatch mechanics or coordinate with local dealer technicians for shop and field repairs.
  • Oversee preventive maintenance for equipment in the shop and field.
  • Review daily operator inspections; identify and resolve issues promptly.
  • Analyze and manage repair and maintenance costs for fleet operations.
  • Respond to and troubleshoot equipment failures, field issues, or accident-related concerns.
  • Support mechanics with equipment diagnostics and complex repair tasks.
