About The Position

SA Recycling, a recognized industry leader in the metals recycling industry, is looking for an experience Diesel/Heavy Equipment Shop Manager position for our St. Louis Region. The Diesel/Heavy Equipment Shop Manager will oversee all maintenance and repair activities for SA Recycling’s St. Louis’s Operations fleet of trucks, heavy equipment, and trailers. You will be responsible for ensuring prompt repairs, implementing preventative maintenance programs, and managing the parts and supplies inventories to minimize operational downtime. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership, mentoring and communications skills; mechanical knowledge; and the ability to manage a small team in a face-paced environment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED with a post-secondary diploma or trades certificate as a Diesel or Heavy Equipment Mechanic, or a related field.
  • 5+ years’ experience managing a fleet or heavy equipment repair facility; and diesel and heavy equipment mechanics.
  • A thorough knowledge of heavy-duty diesel engines, transmission, electrical and hydraulic systems, and mechanical repairs.
  • Ability and willingness to work in an outdoor environment and in all types of weather.
  • Good decision making, problem solving, and communication skills.

  • Bi-lingual (English & Spanish) language skills highly desired.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all repair and preventative maintenance activities for a fleet of heavy equipment, trucks, and trailers.
  • Lead a team of diesel and heavy equipment mechanics and provide guidance, training, and support to ensure high levels of performance and productivity.
  • Coordinate and schedule preventative maintenance activities to minimize downtime and maximize the fleet’s lifespan.
  • Manage parts and supplies inventories, vendor relationships, and maintenance budgets.
  • Utilize fleet management software to track and report on performance metrics, maintenance and repair activities, equipment history, and spare parts and supplies inventory.
  • Promote clean, organized, and safe work areas in compliance with SA Recycling’s and OSHA’s standards, as well as follow all Environmental practices and procedures.
