About The Position

Fabrication Tech at Heritage Glass, LLC is a vital member of our Shop team, responsible for developing the skills and knowledge required to become a self-driven member of the fabrication process prior to product being sent to field projects. You are responsible for preparation and fabrication - cutting, replacing, transporting, and removing all types of glass frames in the Shop setting. This is a rigorous, hands-on role, requiring a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and embracing our HG Company Values. Fab Techs work under the direct supervision of the experienced Shop Foreman, assisting with all aspects of glass and architectural metal fabrication on both commercial and residential projects to support the field glazers. This role requires an unwavering commitment to safety and a robust physical constitution.

Requirements

  • Previous experience in fabrication or construction is preferred.
  • Familiarity with different types of frames, tools, and machinery used in the fabrication process.
  • Legal Eligibility: Must be at least 18 years of age and able to work legally in the USA.
  • Educational Foundation: A high school diploma or equivalent (GED) is required.
  • Pre-Employment Screening: Successful completion of pre-employment driving, background, and drug screening is mandatory.
  • Technical Aptitude: Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and a willingness to learn. Ability to read and interpret fab sketches and project drawings and specifications in English. Instruction will be provided as long as the candidate is capable of learning and open to coaching. Prior coursework in mathematics, plan reading, or hands-on Shop class(es) is beneficial. Ability to use measuring tools accurately.
  • Driving Requirements: A valid Wisconsin drivers license and reliable transportation are necessary for travel to various job sites and the training facility.
  • Attention to detail and ability to work with precision.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and team-oriented environment.
  • Excellent communication and time-management skills. Willingness to learn and take on new tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Read Fab Sketches and Specifications – Interpret drawings and project layout to determine glass types, dimensions, and requirements.
  • Fab Frames – Securely fabricate frames using putty, adhesives, clips, or molding, ensuring proper alignment.
  • Handle and Transport Materials Safely – Load, unload, and move frame and glass panels and related materials using appropriate lifting techniques and safety equipment.
  • Repair or Replace Damaged Glass – Remove broken or defective glass while maintaining structural integrity and appearance during fabrication.
  • Ensure Safety and Cleanliness – Maintain a safe work environment by following safety protocols, using PPE, and cleaning up debris after each task.
  • Following all company safety policies (and related PPE), protocol, and procedures without exception.
  • Arriving punctually and prepared for work daily.
  • Maintaining a respectful and professional attitude toward team members, clients, and the public.
  • Communicating effectively with team members and supervisors to ensure timely completion of projects.
  • Learn commonly used metals to assist in the preparation of materials for fabrication, including cutting, drilling, polishing, and edging.
  • Learning Shop stock item locations and tracking of inventory levels - reporting any shortages or issues to the Shop Foreman.
  • Assisting with general maintenance and upkeep of shop area, equipment and tools. Always maintaining a clean and organized work area to ensure safety and efficiency.
  • Operating various machinery and tools safely to fabricate according to project specifications. Including reading a tape measure properly and using the saw to cut consistently and accurately.
  • Inspecting and ensuring the quality of fabricated materials: making any necessary adjustments.
  • Properly fab, handle glass, and prep frames – accept feedback and continuously striving to improve.
  • The ability to drive company vehicles /trucks and maintain a valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to make brake metal accurately and consistently.
  • Assisting with loading and unloading glass materials from delivery trucks.
  • Reporting all safety concerns, hazards, and "near-misses" to Shop Foreman immediately. Ability to set and disarm building alarm properly, depending on the shift/ time of day.
