About The Position

Venture Dynamics is seeking motivated and safety-minded Shipyard Trades Helpers to provide semi-skilled support to welding, fitting, rigging, machining, painting, electrical, pipe, and insulation teams. This position is above basic Helper/Firewatch and intended for individuals with some industrial or shipyard experience who can safely use tools, assist multiple trades, and support shipboard operations but are not yet classified as 3rd Class tradesmen. Work is performed aboard Navy and commercial vessels, in dry docks, and in industrial shop environments.

Requirements

Ability to perform firewatch duties (training provided if needed)
Ability to pass an annual respirator fit-test
Prior shipyard, maritime, industrial, or construction experience
Ability to safely use basic hand tools and power tools
Ability to climb ladders, work at heights, navigate confined spaces, and stand for extended periods
Ability to lift 40–60 lbs and work in physically demanding environments
Must pass background check and drug screening per customer requirements
Reliable transportation and consistent attendance
Ability to obtain DBIDS/base access when required
Willingness to work overtime, nights, weekends, and variable shifts

OSHA-10 Maritime
Firewatch certification
Familiarity with hot-work, confined-space, and industrial safety procedures
Experience assisting with trade tasks such as grinding, surface prep, basic rigging, staging, and material handling
Exposure to shipyard trades including welding, fitting, electrical, painting, insulation, rigging, and machining

Responsibilities

Assist welders, fitters, riggers, painters, electricians, insulators, machinists, and mechanics
Perform basic trade-related tasks such as grinding, surface prep, staging tools, and removing fasteners
Safely operate basic hand tools and power tools as directed
Support rigging, lifting, and material-handling operations
Assist with consumables, tool organization, steel prep, material staging, and jobsite setup
Perform housekeeping, debris removal, sweeping, and general cleanup
Deliver tools, hoses, ventilation ducting, and temporary services
Support confined-space entry operations under shipyard protocols
Follow OSHA Maritime, NAVSEA, and shipyard safety requirements
Work in confined spaces, at heights, and throughout shipboard environments
Carry out instructions from senior craftsmen and supervisors
