We are currently seeking a person who identifies strongly with our mission and core values to join our team as a Ships Afloat Program Specialist at our BSC San Diego Warehouse. The ideal candidate for this role has prior U.S. Navy experience (2–4 years) in logistics, supply chain operations, retail/warehouse work, or military supply operations. Familiarity with Navy supply systems, shipboard procurement processes, or government logistics preferred. Purpose: The Ships Afloat Program Specialist supports the operational, logistical, and customer facing activities of the Navy Ships Afloat sales and distribution program. This role is responsible for entering and processing orders, receiving and preparing products for shipment, and delivering goods directly to Navy vessels throughout the Pacific Northwest. The Specialist also promotes The Lighthouse for the Blind, Inc.’s mission by representing the organization professionally during ship visits, strengthening relationships with Navy supply personnel, and communicating the impact of AbilityOne employment for people who are blind. Prior Navy experience is strongly preferred favored to ensure strong understanding of shipboard logistics and procurement processes.

Requirements

  • Prior U.S. Navy experience strongly preferred (Supply Corps, LS, or shipboard logistics experience strongly preferred).
  • Associate degree preferred or equivalent experience.
  • 2–4 years of experience in logistics, supply chain operations, retail/warehouse work, or military supply operations.
  • Familiarity with Navy supply systems, shipboard procurement processes, or government logistics preferred.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact professionally with Navy personnel.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Excel.
  • Ability to lift and transport products during ship visits and deliveries.
  • Valid driver’s license; ability to travel regionally to Navy installations and ships.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks accurately.

Responsibilities

  • Enters, processes, and tracks all Ships Afloat orders with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Coordinates with warehouse teams to receive, stage, and prepare products for delivery.
  • Ensures all documentation, pricing, and product information complies with NAVSUP, AbilityOne, and internal Lighthouse standards.
  • Collaborates with Order Processing Specialists in Washington and California to maintain smooth workflow and consistent customer service.
  • Conducts regular visits to Navy ships in the Pacific Northwest to deliver products, promote offerings, and support shipboard supply personnel.
  • Represents The Lighthouse for the Blind, Inc. by communicating the organization’s mission, employment impact, and AbilityOne program value to Navy customers.
  • Builds and maintains strong relationships with Supply Officers, Logistics Specialists, and shipboard procurement teams.
  • Provides product information, replenishment recommendations, and pricing updates during ship visits.
  • Supports on ship sales activities, including product demonstrations and needs assessments.
  • Identifies customer trends and communicates product needs or opportunities to internal stakeholders.
  • Receives incoming products, verifies accuracy, and ensures items are ready for outbound shipment.
  • Loads, transports, and delivers products to Navy vessels and installations in a safe and timely manner.
  • Troubleshoots order discrepancies, delivery issues, and urgent fleet requests.
  • Ensures all deliveries meet safety, security, and shipboard access requirements.
