About The Position

We are seeking an experienced Shipping Manager to oversee shipping operations and ensure the efficient and timely delivery of corrugated packaging products. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in warehouse management and logistics with a focus on process improvement and team management. This role requires a hands-on approach managing inventory control, maintaining a safe work environment, and requires close coordination with production, inventory, and customer service teams to meet delivery schedules, maintain quality standards, and optimize shipping efficiency.

Requirements

  • Experience in a corrugated, paper or similar manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated understanding of freight and logistics management.
  • 3 to 5 years in a shipping and receiving or logistics leadership position.
  • Demonstrated leadership mentoring and training shipping and receiving personnel.
  • Strong administration, multi-taking, planning and organizing skills.
  • Experience with leading and implementing dock and PIT safety training,
  • Experience using an ERP/WMS/TMS system, required.
  • Ability to use IT systems, including Microsoft Office, human capital management systems, manufacturing systems and SAP.
  • Bachelor’s degree required or equivalent work experience.
  • Possesses a strong safety and operational background.
  • Strong leadership capabilities.
  • Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven ability to select, build, engage and mentor the department team to consistently meet expectations.
  • Energized by a fast paced, ever-changing environment.
  • Knowledge of scheduling systems, trailer utilization, and DOT regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead safety as a core value by actively promoting and enforcing safe work practices
  • Lead, train, and develop a team of material handlers and forklift operators
  • Establish and enforce standard work processes and operating procedures
  • Manage discipline, attendance, and compliance with company policies
  • Set performance expectations and conduct regular performance reviews
  • Manage daily performance of dedicated transportation carriers
  • Audit carrier billing for accuracy and cost compliance
  • Monitor service quality, on-time delivery (OTD), and carrier performance metrics
  • Coordinate and manage yard spotters and spotting activities
  • Maintain proper yard balance to support shipping and production flow
  • Develop and execute daily load plans to drive fork truck productivity
  • Ensure trailers are staged in doors according to shipping priorities
  • Oversee efficient movement of units from production take-off to trailers
  • Minimize handling, re-handling, and unnecessary moves
  • Ensure shipping activity aligns with customer delivery requirements
  • Establish and maintain inspection processes for outbound finished goods
  • Ensure safe, damage-free handling throughout the warehouse and dock
  • Enforce proper loading, blocking, bracing, and securing of goods
  • Address quality issues immediately to prevent customer complaints or claims
  • Maximize truck utilization through efficient loading patterns
  • Select optimal palletization and load configurations
  • Partner with transportation providers to support efficient route planning
  • Reduce freight cost through improved load density and planning
  • Manage fork trucks, dock equipment, and material handling assets
  • Ensure docks and warehouse areas remain clean, organized, and safe
  • Control and track spend related to material handling equipment and dock operations
  • Support preventive maintenance and equipment uptime
  • Ensure finished goods inventory is accurately stored, labeled, and protected
  • Prevent misplaced, damaged, or aged inventory on the warehouse floor
  • Perform end-of-month cycle counts and support inventory reconciliation
  • Allocate overrun inventory appropriately (scrap, overrun stock, or customer shipment)
  • Maintain inventory accuracy within ERP/WMS system
