About The Position

The Shipping Lead oversees daily shipping operations to ensure accurate, timely, and efficient processing of all incoming and outgoing shipments. This role verifies shipment information, prepares orders, and leads the shipping team to maintain compliance with company policies, safety standards, and operational procedures. The Shipping Lead supervises up to 20 employees, providing guidance, training, and performance support to achieve departmental goals.

Nice To Haves

  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional vocational/technical training a plus.
  • 3+ years of warehouse or shipping experience, including supervising a team.
  • Experience operating forklifts, tier lift trucks, or other material handling equipment.
  • Familiarity with shipping systems, warehouse management systems (WMS), and standard shipping documentation.
  • Knowledge of LTL, parcel, and truckload shipping processes preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Compare identifying information and count, weigh, or measure incoming and outgoing items to verify accuracy against bills of lading, invoices, orders, or other records.
  • Determine appropriate methods of shipment based on order and carrier requirements.
  • Affix shipping labels and stencil identifying information on cartons and containers.
  • Assemble wooden or cardboard containers, select preassembled containers, and insert items securely.
  • Nail covers on wooden crates and bind containers with metal tape as needed.
  • Stamp, stencil, or glue identifying information and shipping instructions on crates or containers.
  • Post weights and shipping charges, affix postage, and maintain shipping documentation.
  • Unpack and examine incoming shipments, record shortages or damages, reject damaged items, and coordinate with shippers to resolve issues.
  • Route items to the appropriate departments and ensure outgoing shipments meet specifications.
  • Maintain inventory of shipping materials and supplies.
  • Operate tier lift trucks or hand trucks to move, convey, or hoist shipments from shipping and receiving platforms to storage or work areas.
  • Assign, plan, and monitor work for shipping team members; support employee development, training, and performance management.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety procedures and maintain a clean and organized work environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
