Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Able to wear appropriate protective gear and use basic shipfitting tools
  • Able to physically perform essential job duties with or without accommodations
  • Able to work at heights, in confined spaces and have the ability to climb staircases and ladders of varying sizes
  • Able to read, write and comprehend simple instructions
  • Able to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions in written, oral or diagram form
  • Able to calculate and understand units of measure, including fractions and decimals
  • Read, understand, and interpret advanced blueprints to preform task required
  • Able to measure using a scale and tape measure
  • 3 Years of expirience required

  • Weld Certification
  • Ultrasonic Impact Testing Treatment (UIT Treatment) - certification
  • Carbon steel certification
  • Passing grade on breaking test
  • Certification in shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), also known as manual metal arc welding (MMA or MMAW), flux shielded arc welding or informally as stick welding (manual arc welding process that uses a consumable electrode covered with a flux to lay the weld)
  • Certification in flux-cored arc welding (FCAW or FCA) (a semi-automatic or automatic arc welding process)

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to all structural phases of a ship’s hull construction which may include fitting, fabricating, assembly and alignment of a ship’s structure
  • Make up plating, layout access cuts and inserts, inspect tanks and assist with testing
  • Tack Weld as needed
  • Perform installations and rip outs
  • Review sketches and blueprints to be able to perform layouts
