About The Position

The MIL Corporation is seeking a Shipboard Safety Inspector (Occupational Safety, Analyst) to support a US Navy client in Seattle, WA. The Safety Inspector will monitor Alteration Installation Team (AIT) safety compliance and support the government OSIC, as needed. This position currently requires an on-site schedule, with 5 days on-site. Schedule is subject to change based on company/contract requirements.

Requirements

  • 3 Years of US Navy shipboard experience
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Must be able to lift items up to National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) limits
  • Must be able to stand, kneel and/or crouch for extended periods of time
  • Must be able to climb ladders and scaffolding
  • Must be able to work in high places, as well as small, cramped, or confined spaces
  • All applicants for this position must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance; please note that the clearance process considers financial background aspects.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiar with maritime safety regulations including OSHA, NFPA, NIOSH, ANSI, EPA, and local/state rules.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct daily shipboard safety inspections and provide on-the-spot recommendations to correct unsatisfactory and unsafe conditions
  • Ensure the AIT is following its Quality Management System (QMS) procedures, quality inspection and test plan, safety and environmental compliance requirements, and technical instructions
  • Ensure the AIT complies with applicable Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards and Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) Standard Items (SIs)
  • Observe trades at work, offering guidance and real-time solutions to promote compliance and enhance worker protection
  • Support the Corrective Action Request (CAR) process
  • Ensure proper housekeeping and Environment, Safety, and Occupational Health (ESOH) requirements are maintained
  • Provide enhanced oversight of all safety processes / procedures to ensure full regulatory compliance, including OSHA and local shipyard standards
  • Produce daily deliverable of written safety surveillance at the end of the shift for each job site visited that day
  • Practice safe working techniques and re-enforce the safety policies, guidelines, and procedures
  • Evaluate field safety conditions through audit/monitoring and advise management on findings: tracks corrections of all deficiencies
  • Conduct random inspection & audits of work sites to ensure safety and quality compliance is in place
