Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's Degree in pulp and paper, chemical engineering or mechanical engineering
  • At least three years of experience in any area of paper mill operations.
  • Demonstrated supervisory/leadership experience.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate safety as a core value and establish a safe work environment by actively leading the safe execution of work.
  • Provide leadership on a rotating shift for the entire Biron Division, typically with emphasis in the Paper and Packaging Production areas. Leadership must be consistent with high expectations, caring and accountability, and drive to exceed all goals - safety, environmental, quality, cost, and productivity.
  • Administer the labor agreement, company policies and work rules. Complete audits each shift to ensure conformance to mill policies and expectations. Promote idea generation that will drive an evolution of best practices within the confines of our established processes.
  • Utilizing daily plans communicated by area managers; Lead, mentor, and guide the development of crews into self-sufficient, proficient, autonomous operating teams that are supporting and driving initiatives that improve the safety, quality, cost competitiveness and productivity of the Biron Division. This involves coaching and developing team members to be self-directed, technically skilled, and accountable to job responsibilities, and their fellow employees.
  • Assist area managers in the development or improvement of processes that are roadblocks to crew self-sufficiency. Work with operators, supervisors, engineers, business unit managers, and HR Technical Trainer to improve training materials and processes.
  • Lead incident investigations on safety, reliability, and human performance issues through proper utilization of supporting tools.
  • Perform off-shift and weekend maintenance prioritization. Assist production and maintenance personnel with shift maintenance activity coordination to safely minimize equipment downtime.
  • Ensure good communication between business units and departments that promotes cooperation to achieve desired outcomes and improved mill productivity.
  • Provide on-shift training for all employees regarding problem solving and decision-making processes.
  • Lead and drive operator training processes through field knowledge testing and signoff.
  • Evaluate employee performance and provide feedback to employees on successes and opportunities for improvement.
  • Possess ambulatory capabilities to move around the mill, climb ladders and catwalks.
  • Leadership that gets results through facilitating the crews' execution of area plans and conformance to standard processes. Lead with WHY.
