About The Position

The Acetic Acid Shift Team Lead (STL) is the frontline supervisory role for each asset operations crew (Outside Operators). This role has responsibility for safe operation of the chemical production process of the asset including continuous operation of the process from the control board to maintain the process within its design operating envelopes as well as supporting all activities taking place in the field during their shift. This role works a 12-hour rotating shift, including nights, weekends and holidays.

Requirements

5+ years of Operator experience in a petrochemical or refinery setting.
2+ years Console Operator experience
18 Years of Age with a High School diploma or GED
Must possess or obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card prior to first day of employment.
Possess a current, valid license to operate a motor vehicle in the United States.
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a permanent basis without visa sponsorship (U.S. citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident)
Possess skills, knowledge, and training related to implementation of safe work practices such as Life Saving Rules, 20 Safety Principles, lock out/tag out, system and process openings, working at heights, hot work, confined space entry, energized electrical work.
Basic knowledge of chemicals and their safe handling
Basic understanding of Windows-based programs: MS Word, MS Excel, Outlook
Experience coordinating and supporting maintenance activities

Process Technology (P-Tech) degree preferred
Supervisory experience with demonstrated leadership competencies preferred; prior supervisory experience (including with other companies) required if less than 5 years' experience in plant operations within the company.

Responsibilities

Meet all SHE objectives and comply with all governmental laws and policies for a manufacturing site.
Responsible for the safety of the team above any other outcome, requiring and promoting compliance with the INEOS Life Saving Rules and the INEOS 20 Principles of Process and Behavioral Safety, and site policies/standards.
Responsible for stopping work and/or initiating safe shutdown of asset if the situation warrants.
Ensures all procedures and checklists are followed in all cases without exception. If there is an error or gap in those procedures or checklists, has the accountability to ensure that they are reviewed for quality and updated to reflect accurate content.
Responsible for reporting all incidents related to their asset that occur during their shift and following up to ensure root cause is determined and corrected.
Responsible for ensuring that all necessary operational and/or safety training is fully implemented and reinforced, that their employees have the knowledge to work safely in our facilities, and employees know they have the right and duty to stop work if they identify an unsafe condition, process, or practice.
Takes personal leadership role in daily activities, task planning, incident investigations, MOC process, PHAs, near miss reviews, audits and other activities and work performance as they relate to the INEOS’s key focus areas of Safety, Environmental, Quality, Reliability, and Cost of operation.
Responsible for initiating safety device bypass approval and managing the removal of the bypass in accordance with the procedure.
Initiates return to service documentation process.
Responsible for ensuring compliance calendar is complete and up-to-date.
Coaches, counsels, and supports the Operators on shift.
Evaluates the performance of operators, issues oral and/or written praise or reprimands, and recommends disciplinary action is severe cases.
Conducts annual performance appraisals for each direct report.
Works with each Operator on their individual training needs, enforcing on time completion of all training, including VTAs and MOC acknowledgments.
Responsible for identifying and communicating specific training opportunities to Operations Supervisor/Training Coordinator for outside operators.
Responsible for identifying and training/cross training step ups for board.
Manage operations personnel through absentee reporting (sick leave, vacation, funeral, etc.), discipline, and payroll (verify and enter exception time) following guidelines in the company policy.
Proactively reach out to other STLs, Training Coordinators and SSLs to get feedback on direct reports (performance, attendance, training, etc.)
Proactively identify and resolve Operations Team concerns including identifying and facilitating conflict resolution.
Responsible for ensuring Outside Operators follow procedures, protocols, and policies.
Responsible for ensuring operations personnel are meeting established guidelines for training and qualifications.
Responsible for ensuring Outside Operations time has been entered and approved prior to payroll processing.
Invests the time to know direct reports and properly delegates to develop the team through training, coaching, and job assignments.
Sharing and adapting best practices across shifts to provide a consistent experience for all team members, regardless of crew and/or unit.
Leads with optimism, confidence, and clarity to help team members feel engaged, value their role, and feel good about the company direction and strategy.
Functions as a member of the INEOS management team and support downward and challenge upward.
Operates the asset control board to maintain the process within design operating envelopes.
Startup, shutdown, isolation, and decontamination of plant equipment.
Proactively identify issues that could impact operations, work to address those issues or escalate them promptly to reduce potential impact.
Adjusts the process parameters for unusual events, including freezing temperatures and hurricanes, up to and including complete unit shutdowns in order to protect equipment and personnel from potential weather damage.
Responds to all area emergencies including loss of utility streams, energy releases, and other dangerous and unusual situations by following emergency procedures and utilizes safety equipment and systems to maintain the safety and integrity of the process and equipment.
Optimize console to control day-to-day operations for maximum efficiency
Makes complete and thorough shift relief.
Apprises the oncoming shift of operational conditions, non-routine occurrences and situations, safety concerns, maintenance activities, status of permits, transfers in progress, anticipated logistics-related arrivals, manpower levels, etc.
Notes operational changes or significant occurrences in the shift log.
Review operator log sheets for accuracy and ensure appropriate action has been taken.
Review PI data for assigned areas of responsibility and take appropriate action when abnormal operating conditions are indicated.
Lead procedure reviews for assigned areas to ensure appropriate content, quality, and accuracy. Expected to escalate or revise when needed.
Responsible for gaining and maintaining process knowledge of the unit and process changes to the unit, to enable effective operation and detection of unusual process conditions; uses knowledge to troubleshoot and resolve issues.
Assist in implementing corrections to minimize impact to operations and eliminate root cause.
Responsible for issuing daily production report for assigned unit with appropriate comments to explain safety, environmental, and production exceptions.
Help identify improvements with alarm management to minimize nuisance alarms and alarm flooding conditions.
Review and make recommendations to keep the plant’s operating envelopes current.
Assesses and requests orders for chemicals used in the asset process
Maintains the integrity of asset safety systems through routine checks of electronic interlock functions and review of outside operator process safety tasks (car seal checklists, relief device alternate protection procedures, etc)
Responsible for entering high quality work notifications that don’t require rework/reject and communicate needs to the Work Execution Supervisor and Work Execution forces.
Follows up on submitted WN to ensure proper visibility and priority has been assigned.
Follows up on rejected WN with operators to ensure proper troubleshooting and feedback is provided.
Responsible for ensuring equipment is ready for maintenance per schedule. Takes action to drive resolution if delayed.
Responsible for directing field activities and actions taken by field operators to ensure safe and reliable operation.
Supports turnaround (TAR) scope development for asset.
Challenges Operators to optimize their process and equipment to ensure maximum capacity and reliability.
Proactively identify any production or supply limitations and maximize energy efficiency.
