About The Position

The Shift Supervisor is responsible for ensuring adherence to company policies, IATF 16949 Instructions, PPE policy, and 5s principles. This role involves ensuring work instructions are followed, employees are properly trained on products, and advised of all changes, and that documentation on the floor is up to date and controlled. The supervisor will be responsible for approving the hiring of temporary employees, counseling and coaching on performance, and conducting performance appraisals. They are also responsible for the development of all employees in the department, daily supervision and directing of employee tasks, and for hiring, disciplining, and termination of employees under direct supervision. The supervisor ensures company standards are achieved and maintained with a targeted emphasis on continuous improvement, providing support, structure, and documented, formalized training for employees. This is a hands-on, self-starter role with the ability to motivate and lead employees.

Requirements

  • High school graduate, or general education degree (GED)
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from team members, management, and customers
  • Team player / good attitude
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Must be able to physically perform the basic life operation functions of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motion
  • Must possess the visual alertness to operate equipment and motor vehicles, perform trades, tasks, inspect the work of others, and review work for accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness

Responsibilities

  • Ensure that the employee handbook is being followed
  • Follow all IATF 16949 Instructions
  • Ensure adherence to PPE policy and 5s principles
  • Ensure work instructions are being followed
  • Ensure employees are properly trained on products and advised of all changes
  • Ensure documentation on the floor is up to date and controlled
  • Approve the hiring of temporary employees
  • Counsel and coach on performance
  • Conduct performance appraisals
  • Responsible for development of all employees in the department
  • Daily supervision and directing of employee tasks
  • Responsible for hiring, disciplining, and termination of employees under direct supervision
  • Ensure company standards are achieved and maintained with a targeted emphasis on continuous improvement
  • Provide support, structure and documented, formalized training for employees
  • Function as First Response for first aid or emergency situations
  • Document and report all incidents/accidents
  • Ensure the use of safe procedures and standard work
  • Ensure all equipment and machinery is operational and in good working order
  • Coordinate press rotation and cell rotation for ergonomic awareness
  • Understand lockout tagout location on machines and grinders
  • Coordinate the training of team members in quality issues and policies
  • Review and communicate quality alerts/customer concerns to team members
  • Review Fast Response and participate in actions needed to find solution
  • Verify weight checks are completed and required documentation for adjustments
  • Possess knowledge of standard work, materials, tools, and equipment needed for zone
  • Ensure documentation, components, tools, etc. are supplied to operators
  • Contain all non-conforming parts
  • Perform Layered process audit for given schedule
  • Conduct transition meeting with outgoing/incoming supervisors
  • Develop and implement improved processes to ensure that the department is functioning in the most effective and efficient manner
  • Instruct team in proper work methods and standard work
  • Monitor team quality, insure adherence to touch point inspections
  • Review Daily shift report and able to communicate to team
  • Review and understand Part Surveillance to aid in decisions regarding priority
  • Distribute team members to specific tasks during downtime or setup
  • Initiate and promote continuous improvement project
  • Monitor and promote safe work practices
  • Promote and enforce a clean and organized work environment guided by the 5s principles
  • Understand problem solving and escalation process
  • Lead and participate in improvements and initiatives
  • Support ongoing improvement activities
  • Follow any other job related instructions and to perform other job related duties requested by your supervisor
