About The Position

As a Shift Supervisor at RHI Magnesita, you'll play a critical leadership role overseeing production, shipping, and maintenance operations during assigned shifts. We are currently hiring for 2nd and 3rd shift openings. In this role, you'll ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality manufacturing while coordinating preventive maintenance efforts to minimize downtime and support continuous improvement. Your impact will span across production performance, team leadership, and operational excellence.

Requirements

  • Four-year degree (Engineering, Industrial Technology, or related field) or equivalent relevant experience may be considered in lieu of formal education
  • Minimum 5+ years of supervisory experience in manufacturing; union experience required
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills
  • Experience with preventive maintenance systems and production planning
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel); QAD experience a plus
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and overtime
  • Ability to lift/move up to 50 lbs and work at heights up to 40 feet
  • Exposure to high noise levels, dust, and moving mechanical equipment
  • Must be able to climb ladders and work in elevated areas
  • Lead-by-example mindset with strong judgment and problem-solving skills
  • Effective communicator and team builder, with the ability to handle crucial and challenging conversations as needed

Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise production crews to meet daily manufacturing targets
  • Monitor press efficiencies, inventory levels, die changes, and quality metrics
  • Conduct daily safety talks and enforce safety protocols
  • Assist with troubleshooting and resolving process and equipment issues to maintain production flow
  • Ensure compliance with RHI Magnesita's quality standards and production procedures
  • Coordinate with packaging, shipping, raw materials, and QA teams
  • Supervise maintenance personnel and activities during the shift
  • Implement and manage preventive/predictive maintenance programs
  • Monitor equipment performance and initiate repairs or improvements
  • Ensure maintenance staff are trained, equipped, and compliant with safety standards
  • Support capital projects and equipment upgrades in collaboration with engineering
  • Drive Lean Manufacturing and RHI Magnesita Management System (RMS) initiatives
  • Recommend and implement process and equipment improvements
  • Maintain compliance with environmental, health, and safety regulations
  • Uphold the Collective Bargaining Agreement and foster positive labor relations
  • Track and report shift performance metrics (production, downtime, safety, maintenance)
  • Conduct employee coaching, performance reviews, and disciplinary actions
  • Communicate effectively with the Plant Manager, Production Manager, and other departments
