About The Position

Under the direction of the Director of Operations, the Shift Supervisor is responsible for the oversight and supervision of all Residential Aides and Security.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma, GED, or HSE required. A bachelor's degree in human services or a related field is preferred.
  • 3+ years of supervisory experience working in the field of social service, housing, or emergency shelter is required.
  • 3+ years of shit management.
  • 3 year experience with the CARES reporting system or a similar system.
  • Must possess strong organizational, writing, communication, and computer skills.
  • Proficiency is in MS Suite and Google Suite
  • F-80 Fire Safety Coordinator certification or the ability to obtain in 3 months is required.
  • NYC Food Handlers Certificate or the ability to obtain one in 3 months is required.
  • CPR certification required.

Responsibilities

  • Complete intakes for new clients and provide orientation to the facility and DHS rules and regulations.
  • Collect and make copies of client identification and other documents necessary during initial intake.
  • Maintain required documentation in case records in writing and computer databases (CARES) and update the client’s records in accordance with governmental and agency policy.
  • Perform hourly area inspections to ensure that shelter rules are adhered to.
  • Performs the day-to-day monitoring of the residents’ on-site activities.
  • Performs inspections of the facility and immediate neighborhood, and documents/reports any incidents.
  • Monitor sitting areas, laundry rooms, and the cafeteria to ensure all clients are adhering to shelter rules
  • Assists in the planning and organization of recreational activities, events, and outings.
  • Assist clients in daily living skills; wake the clients as needed, provide clothing and personal care items to client.
  • Ensures that the clients' records are out of the units in accordance with governmental and agency policy.
  • Secure the clients’ personal property and maintain a detailed inventory of the clients’ belongings.
  • Observe the behavior of clients, reporting any unusual behavior to the case management and clinical staff.
  • Attend and participate in all required agency meetings: staff meetings, house meetings, in- service training, and weekly/bi-weekly case review
  • Assists in the Cafeteria with meals being served to clients at breakfast, lunch, and dinner
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Residential Aide Supervisor or other supervisory staff.
  • Orientation of all new Residential Aides to the facility.
  • Assist the Director of Operations with shelter operational tasks, including meal service, security, bed signing procedures, supply issuance, property storage, unit inspections, facility inspections, incident submission, shift reports, incident reporting, etc.
  • Supervise a team of Residential Aides and Security to ensure safe and efficient provision of services to all clients.
  • Ensure proper communication of all critical information at shift change with incoming Residential Aides and Security Staff.
  • Schedule daily assignments for Residential Aide and Security Staff and monitor their performance.
  • Lead subordinates in Safe Crisis Management techniques and other crisis management models.
  • Complete incident reports and reports to DHS and/or 163rd Council Supervisors as per Incident policies.
  • Ensure appropriate processing of new and returning clients, submit to DHS for approval and bed assignment.
  • Oversee bed sign-ins, curfew checks, and vacancy reporting in CARES.
  • Maintain a timely, effective, and cordial working relationship with DHS Vacancy Control.
  • Supervise staff in packing, storing, and tracking of client belongings in the absence of clients.
  • Oversee bed moves and unit searches in the direction of the Supervisors.
  • Record and respond to client issues and complaints.
  • Work collaboratively with Maintenance, Security, Vendors, and Emergency Responders on site.
  • Track and report visits and services rendered by vendors/contractors during shift.
  • Complete inventory of client supplies and linen as required.
  • Ensure the safety and security of clients by monitoring video surveillance cameras and the fire prevention/detection alarm notification system. Conduct building inspections and coordinate with the Director of Operations on required fire and other safety drills.
  • Informs residents of house rules and regulations and involves social or case workers of the need for follow-up with the client.
  • Assist with fire drills and staff and client evacuation as needed.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
