About The Position

Blair County Prison is seeking to hire three Shift Lieutenants. This position supervises and manages Prison operations and policies, including but not limited to the maintenance of security, the conducting of investigations, the supervision of employees, the monitoring of static security inventory, the routine inspection of the facility, and the care, custody, and control of the inmate population. Essential job duties: ensures that routine and daily operations of the prison comply with applicable local, State, and Federal regulations, statutes, and accreditation standards, ensures that Corrections Officer staff conduct aligns with the above, in addition to County and Institutional policies and procedures. Enforces said policies and procedures where necessary in the course of duty, conducts daily walk-through inspections of the interior of the institution in order to ensure conformity and compliance with the above, manages and supervises Corrections Officers and Civilian staff, such as maintenance technicians and administrative personnel, maintains adequate shift staffing levels. This position must be performed on site at the Blair County Prison. Work schedule and off days, to be determined; work can also be required on weekends, holidays, and emergency response as needed.

Requirements

  • high school diploma or GED
  • must successfully complete Pennsylvania Department of Corrections Title 37 training within one year of placement if without it at hire
  • possess at least five years' full-time corrections experience or a related law enforcement field required
  • supervisory experience preferred
  • advanced knowledge of corrections methods, practices, principles, and techniques
  • moderate computer literacy in e-mail, Internet, spreadsheet, and word processing applications
  • moderate math abilities
  • proficient interpersonal relations and communications skills (both written and verbal)
  • proficient organizational skills
  • willingness to work at any time emergencies arise or circumstances merit
  • reliable transportation and/or a clean MVR
