Responsibilities & Qualifications The Novelis Bay Minette, AL team is looking for Quality/Process/Lab Technicians to serve in the Cast House. The candidates in this role will be responsible for running the Casthouse lab equipment (ovens, quantometers, quality measuring devices, others), supporting root cause analysis, downtime tracking, development of report, and disposition of inputs, and ingots.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Basic statistical training
  • Willingness to travel

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree in STEM, technology, or laboratory science
  • Experience in heavy industry, preferably aluminum manufacturing

Responsibilities

  • Communicate regularly with Operations regarding quality and process concerns/complaints
  • Solely operate one of three in-house labs.
  • Collect, store and organize samples.
  • Use, check, calibrate, maintained and troubleshoot milling machines, quantometer (OES) machines, molten metal quality analyzing machines, scales, ovens, and sieve machine.
  • Implement simple preventive maintenance on the machines.
  • Input data results into different systems, analyze data, develop reports.
  • Support the disposition process, following provided criteria and reactions. This will include reviewing process data, and operator notes, consult with Operations/Process team as necessary.
  • Monitor critical metrics
  • Train operations on quality, lab and process related subjects.
  • Work on various improvement projects and assist in documenting any downtime.
  • Advise on Quality Alerts for sustained quality issues on the manufacturing lines.
  • Assist with Customer complaint issues and the development of corrective actions plans.
