About The Position

The Shift Coordinator is a clinically competent registered professional nurse who delegates, coordinates, and supports nursing staff in the delivery of safe, high‑quality care on the assigned shift. This role provides real‑time leadership by overseeing workflow, monitoring case progress, and serving as a resource for problem identification and resolution. The Shift Coordinator mentors' staff, promotes a team‑based model of care, and upholds professional nursing standards throughout the surgical department. The position requires strong clinical judgment, effective communication with patients, families, and the interdisciplinary team, and the ability to coach and guide staff in a fast‑paced, high‑acuity environment. The Shift Coordinator models professionalism, reinforces accountability to departmental policies, and supports safe surgical practice and regulatory readiness.

Requirements

  • Clinically competent Registered Nurse
  • Currently licensed in the State of Illinois
  • Strong background in the surgical department
  • CPR certification is required
  • Demonstrates advanced clinical knowledge and skills specific to perioperative nursing
  • Provides effective leadership within a high‑acuity setting
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills
  • Professional integrity
  • Ability to proactively identify and resolve problems
  • Sound clinical judgment
  • Ability to mentor staff
  • Commitment to maintaining professional nursing standards and a collaborative team environment

Nice To Haves

  • BSN degree is preferred
  • Prior supervisory or charge nurse experience is preferred
  • Specialty certification in perioperative nursing
