About The Position

Ohia Shelter offers a safe and confidential facility on Oahu for survivors and their children who can no longer remain in their homes because of danger from domestic violence. Crisis support is available 24/7. Trained staff assist survivors with safety, future life-planning and generate referrals for housing, legal assistance and medical needs. The primary responsibilities of the Shelter Relief Worker are to provide a positive living environment and to ensure that the basic day-to-day needs are met for domestic violence survivors who are admitted to the Shelter. This position also manages the intake and discharge procedures for each client as assigned. This position is under the direct supervision of the Shelter Manager.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent, required.
  • Possesses and maintains a valid driver’s license and daily access to an automobile.
  • Possesses and maintains proof of no-fault insurance.
  • Can obtain an acceptable criminal background check upon hire, one year later, and annually thereafter.
  • Can obtain an acceptable CWS background check. upon hire, one year later, and annually thereafter.
  • Can obtain an acceptable APS adult protective registry check upon initial hire, one year later, and every other year thereafter or as requested.
  • Can obtain an acceptable National Sex Offender Registry Check upon hire, one year later, and annually thereafter.
  • Successfully complete an initial tuberculosis test prior to hiring or have documentation of a negative test result within one year of the date of hire, and annually thereafter.

  • Familiarity with the dynamics of intimate partner violence, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in managing the daily operations of the shelter programs by maintaining client house and office cleanliness, assisting clients with daily needs, providing intervention in house conflicts, restocking the pantry and donation room supplies, and completing inventories of shelter supplies.
  • Monitors and assess the basic needs of clients, including personal items, and provides a positive living environment and appropriate assistance to clients admitted to the shelter.
  • Completes client assessments, intakes, and safety check evaluations with clients who are admitted to the shelter for services, as assigned.
  • Assists with advocacy support and crisis intervention in collaboration with the Shelter Manager and/or assigned Shelter Case Mangers and Advocates in the event of crisis situations.
  • Manages incoming calls to the domestic violence shelter access line and office lines and responds to service inquiries, referrals within the Domestic Violence Community, and requests for information or interagency communication in a timely and courteous manner.
  • Provides written documentation of reports, follow-up calls, monitoring, collateral contacts, crisis calls and other pertinent information in client individual files in a timely manner. Assists with the maintenance of case records and for accurate data input of client information into eHana and any other required data base systems.
  • Works cooperatively with other shelter staff in an effort to provide coordinated services to clients through participation in staff meetings and the completion of clients’ status reports at the end of each shift.
