JOB SUMMARY: The Shelter Support Advocate assumes responsibility for the provision of services to homeless Victims of Domestic Violence and Generally Homeless.

Requirements

  • High school diploma (or equivalent)
  • Two years relevant experience as an advocate, case manager or similar position, in a residential or crisis intervention setting involving services for domestic abuse survivors, traumatized populations (including children), or related experience
  • Training and experience which would provide the skills, language, and ability to perform the essential functions of the position.
  • Associate's Degree in Social Services or related field.
  • Travel and attend out of area meetings and conferences as per the funding source(s).
  • Work variable hours and days, including those outside regular Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. business hours.
  • Meet and maintain KCAO hiring requirements which include: Criminal Record Clearance including California DOJ, FBI, Child Abuse Centralized Index (CACI), and the California Sex and Arson Registry (CSAR) (Megan's Law).
  • Reliable, insured transportation and valid California Driver License ( if applicable ) Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) acceptable to KCAO's vehicle insurer (if applicable) .
  • Health examination with tuberculin clearance.
  • Ability to be contacted outside of regularly scheduled work hours in case of emergency.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the implementation of individual case plans.
  • Provide resource information and referral to shelter tenants.
  • Assistance with the development of daily independent living plans.
  • Provide transportation to shelter tenants as needed.
  • Assistance with creating a resume .
  • Assisting with planning and implementation of activities that address the social and emotional well-being of shelter tenants .
  • Coordinate with community resources and organizations to provide additional services for shelter residents .
  • Facilitating and supervising daily activities, such as support groups and recreational activities .
  • Assisting with the intake process for new residents, including explaining rules and procedures .
  • Providing direct care, support, and supervision to residents .
  • Maintaining accurate records of residents' information and progress in HMIS .
  • Coordinating with other staff members to provide comprehensive care and support .
  • Responding to emergencies and crisis situations in a calm and efficient manner .
  • Assisting with meal preparation and distribution , in compliance with any applicable funding regulations.
  • Assisting with daily maintenance of the Shelter , including but not limited to: routine c leaning and maintaining the shelter facility to ensure health and safety standards are met .
  • Providing resources and r eferring residents to other services as needed, such as job training, counseling, or health treatment .
  • Respecting the privacy and dignity of all residents .
  • Adhere to confidentiality and privacy rules and regulations .
  • Provide a compassionate, respectful and safe environment for all shelter residents.
  • Assist with shelter operations including coordination of activities for adults and children.
  • Enforce shelter rules and regulations.
  • Provide stabilizing influence in family stress situations, to include modeling appropriate parenting , cohabitating, and routine cleaning instruction.
  • May r eceive after hour calls for shelter placement of domestic violence victims.
  • Receive, organize, maintain , and distribute inventory of donated household and personal items.
  • Provide childcare for residents as needed.
  • Provide transportation to clients as needed.
  • Complete other required reports as unrelated to HMIS .
  • Attend staff meetings and training as .
  • Perform other duties as .
