Full-Time Shelter Advocate

About The Position

This is an exempt, full-time position with flexible hours, including overnights and weekend shifts. The primary responsibilities include advocacy, case management, and providing support for shelter clients and their dependent children. The position reports to the Supervisor of Shelter Operations.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • Must be responsible, mature, flexible, capable of handling crisis situations, and willing to work with a wide variety of adults and their dependent children
  • 40 hour domestic violence training and successful completion of a background check required
  • Must have excellent verbal and written skills
  • Must be willing to sign a confidentiality form indicating that the privacy of HOPE clients, staff and volunteers will be maintained

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor or Associates degree preferred, experience considered
  • Reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, and proof of auto insurance coverage preferred

Responsibilities

  • Cover crisis hotline
  • Complete intakes and orientation for clients arriving in shelter
  • Establish safety plans with clients and review periodically
  • Review goal plans with clients and assist them in obtaining and updating those goals
  • Document all interactions with clients, crisis calls, etc.
  • Assist in ensuring the shelter is clean and maintained
  • Provide advocacy and referrals for clients as needed
  • Implement and monitor shelter policies and procedures to assure client safety
  • Report all emergencies to supervisor
  • Inform Supervisor of Shelter Operations of food supplies and inventory
  • Report maintenance problems to supervisor
  • Update and keep inventory of forms
  • Update and keep inventory of donations
  • Maintain a list of clients in shelter
  • Maintain list of Releases of Information and expiration dates for clients
  • Assist with fundraisers
  • Office duties such as filing, answering phones, and greeting the public
  • Assist with maintaining electronic management of clients in shelter via Osnium
  • Participate in shelter housekeeping, maintenance, office duties, etc.
  • Accurately document shift conditions, challenges and anticipated questions in the staff log
  • Other duties as assigned
