About The Position

Shelling Shift Supervisor Job Summary: The shelling floor supervisor works with fellow team members to extract as much good meat out of pecans as possible. They do so by using an array of different machinery and processes specific to the current product they are handling, while maintaining a safe and high-quality product. Shelling floor supervisors will ensure that the processes and equipment in the shelling and inshell departments are always running correctly and efficiently. If they are not, floor supervisors will take charge of correcting them. Shelling floor supervisors will partner with the floor lead, and shift supervisor to improve the people and processes of the shelling and inshell departments. Reports Reports directly to the Shelling Assistant Manager and Manager.

Requirements

  • Must be able to frequently lift 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to work in hot and cold environments.
  • Must have reliable transportation.
  • Must understand all equipment and processes in the shelling and inshell departments.
  • Must be able to train, coach, and develop department personnel to success.
  • Must be able to troubleshoot mechanical and process issues.
  • Must be able to come up with and communicate ideas for improvement in an effective manner.
  • Must be able to interpret data and use it to make decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Uses machinery to crack, shell, sort, and roast pecan shells and meat.
  • Understands the shelling and inshell department process.
  • In charge of running the equipment in one or more areas of the shelling department.
  • Identifies and troubleshoots problems with equipment and processes.
  • Required to learn all areas of the shelling and inshell departments to train and develop the employees of each department.
  • Uses tools to fix mechanical problems with equipment.
  • Uses QA data to make judgement calls on what equipment and processes to adjust and communicates this information to the appropriate shift personnel.
  • Partners with the maintenance department to quickly correct all mechanical issues that they are not capable of solving themselves.
  • Maintains a clean and safe work area.
  • Keeps written documentation of all personnel issues.
  • Makes routine check-ins with all personnel in the shelling and inshell departments to ensure proper training and resources are available to employees.
  • Provides follow-up and continuation training to employees who require it.
  • Ensures all personnel can continuously develop their knowledge of the shelling and inshell departments.
  • Identifies and communicates opportunities to improve the shelling and inshell departments.
  • Drives forklifts, scissor lifts, and boom lifts.
  • All employees are responsible for food safety and quality.
  • Employees are responsible for reporting any food safety and quality problems to their Supervisor, FSQA Manager and/or Plant Manager.
  • Employees are responsible for supporting the SQF system.
