About The Position

Work a full range of aircraft sheet metal duties including, but not limited to, disassemble, modify, repair and reassemble complex aircraft metal items & systems, including bulkheads, airframes, spars, air scoops, flaps, wings, pylons, sponsons, fuselages, skins, ribs, gussets and internal and external fuel tanks.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Five (5) years relevant experience in heavy structures or military aviation background
  • Military installation DEPOT level maintenance experience and/or equivalent major MRO facility preferred.
  • Must be able to read and interpret blueprints
  • Must be familiar with U.S. Military aviation maintenance criteria and specifications
  • Must be able to manufacture, fabricate, develop, install and repair a variety of items from a variety of metals including high strength steel, titanium, aluminum and numerous alloys, fiberglass and honeycomb/composite skins.
  • Up to 25% travel may be required
  • Must be a US Citizen
  • Must be able to pass a National Agency background check, which could include a criminal history and credit check for access to Government facilities.
  • We maintain a drug-free workplace and perform post offer, pre-employment substance abuse testing.
  • Must be able to walk and stand on level and/or inclined surfaces for certain periods throughout the day.
  • Must be able to climb stairs, ramps, ladders, and work stands.
  • Must be able to crouch, crawl, grasp or handle objects, use finger dexterity, bend elbow/knee and reach above/below shoulders.
  • May be required to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • May be required to see aircraft in flight, read dials/gauges, identify small objects and hand tools.
  • Must be able to see imperfections, micrometer readings and other small scales.
  • Must be able to communicate by voice and detect sound by ear.
  • Must be able to distinguish color and judge three-dimensional depth.
  • May be required to operate power vehicles, machinery, hand tools, ground support equipment, fork lift, APU, etc.

Nice To Haves

  • A&P license not required but a plus
  • Prefer experience from military fixed wing and/or rotor community, including, but not limited to: F/A-18, P-8, F-5, T-6,T-44,H-60 variants or civilian heavy structures sheet metal/fastener R&R background.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze and evaluate structural damage to metal system and items
  • Develop patterns using a combination of parallel and radial line development
  • Fabricate, install, and repair a variety of items and systems made from a wide variety of metals, e.g., stainless steel, copper sheet, magnesium, honeycomb, alloys, aluminum etc.
  • Replace sections and patch old systems
  • Cut, bend, shape, and form metals for items that have numerous irregular angles, planes and curves with varying pitch and circumference
  • Use a variety of assembly joints, complex fastening systems, riveted or welded joints
  • Drill or punch holes
  • Assemble or repair items by seaming, soldering, bolting, screwing, riveting, tacking and spot welding
  • User precision measuring instruments such as calipers, protractors, snap ring, height, depth, dial and screw pitch gauges, squares, rulers, trammel points and sine bars
  • Other Duties as Assigned
