About The Position

The Sheetmetal Mechanic 1st Class is responsible for accomplishing work in accordance with work specifications safely, with the highest quality, in a professional manner.

Requirements

  • Must have a minimum High School diploma or equivalent and five (5) years directly related experience as a Sheetmetal Mechanic, preferably in the maritime industry.
  • Must be able to read and interpret mechanical drawings and layout to related shipboard construction HVAC and habitability
  • Must have advanced knowledge of the various types of metals and sizes.
  • Advanced knowledge of habitability layout and installation of Metal Joiner bulkheads, doors, berthing’s, galleys and office outfitting
  • Must have the ability to navigate a ship and understand compartment designation.
  • Must be able to repair sheetmetal products, advanced fabrication, installation, and repairs related to Shipboard construction HVAC and Habitability
  • Be able to carry a full tool bag and remove, dissemble, repair, reassemble and reinstall ships equipment.
  • Must have advanced knowledge and experience in forming sheetmetal products with: Press Brake, Power Roller, Manual Roller, Plasma Cutter, and Sheers
  • Must have general knowledge of the Work Authorization Form (WAF) and Tag-Out process
  • Ability to plan, prioritize, and organize future and active work
  • Must be able to work at heights of 20 ft. or higher.
  • Must be able to stand, sit, walk, kneel and crawl for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to adhere and understand the company’s safety policies as well as industrial safety requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Must be able to lead a team of Sheetmetal Mechanics and provide technical guidance.
  • Coordinate tasks and delegate responsibilities to 2nd and 3rd Class Sheetmetal Mechanics
  • Perform inspections and tests in accordance with to NAVSEA and Local Standard Items.
  • Provide training and mentorship to develop the skills 2nd and 3rd Class mechanics and apprentices.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, including proper storage of rigging equipment and materials.
  • Follow safety procedures and protocols to minimize risks related to rigging evolutions, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Inspect, measure and record data of ships equipment for certification.
  • Ability to adapt to change in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to navigate around and onboard Naval vessels.
