About The Position

The Shear Operator is responsible for cutting sheet materials to specified dimensions using shear equipment to support production needs. This role ensures materials are cut accurately, safely, and efficiently in accordance with work instructions and quality standards. The position requires attention to detail, mechanical aptitude, and the ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Requirements

  • Previous experience operating shear equipment or working in a manufacturing environment preferred
  • Ability to read and follow work instructions and basic drawings
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Basic math and measuring skills
  • Mechanical aptitude and ability to learn equipment operation
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented environment
  • Willingness to learn and be trained on shear processes and materials
  • Ability to stand for extended periods during the shift
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds regularly
  • Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, and reach throughout the shift
  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, dust, sharp materials, and varying temperatures
  • Ability to safely operate shear machines and related equipment
  • Ability to wear required PPE, including safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, and steel-toe footwear
  • Ability to maintain focus and accuracy in a repetitive production environment
  • Ability to perform precise measuring and cutting tasks consistently
  • Regular and reliable attendance is required

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate shear machines to cut materials to required sizes and specifications
  • Read and interpret work orders, cut sheets, and drawings
  • Measure and mark materials to ensure accuracy prior to cutting
  • Verify dimensions and tolerances using measuring tools such as tape measures, calipers, and gauges
  • Inspect materials and finished cuts for quality and defects
  • Maintain proper material handling and organization to minimize waste
  • Follow production schedules and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area
  • Follow all company policies, procedures, and safety guidelines
  • Communicate with supervisors and team members regarding production status or issues
  • Support continuous improvement efforts within the department
