The Shear Operator is responsible for operating metal shearing equipment to cut raw materials to precise specifications, supporting production efficiency and product quality. This role demands strict adherence to safety procedures, equipment maintenance protocols, and quality control standards throughout all cutting operations. This is a 2nd shift position with hours from 3 p.m. – 11:30 p.m. and is located on-site at our manufacturing facility in Greeneville, TN.

Requirements

  • Fork truck certification is required.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, routings, and work instructions.
  • Proficiency in computer systems, including navigation within Oracle and Microsoft Excel.
  • Demonstrated commitment to punctual and consistent daily attendance.
  • Ability to safely lift and handle materials, including lifting pallets to shoulder height.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety and quality standards.
  • Willingness to work in a team-oriented, fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience operating metal shearing equipment in a manufacturing or industrial setting.
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles and 6S workplace organization.
  • Experience performing basic equipment maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to cross-train and perform multiple roles within a production department.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively with team members and leadership.
  • Experience using Oracle ERP systems for job creation and labor reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Safely set up and operate department shears to cut materials according to production specifications.
  • Perform light and preventative maintenance on shearing equipment, including proper lockout/tagout procedures when required.
  • Monitor material inventory levels and promptly notify the lead operator or materials team of low stock conditions.
  • Create discrete jobs in the system and accurately report labor and production data as needed.
  • Cross-train and perform related duties for all roles within the department to support team flexibility and workflow continuity.
  • Safely lift and handle pallets, including lifting from stack to shoulder height as required.
  • Operate fork trucks to transport, store, load, and unload materials in accordance with safety guidelines.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free work area; report any unusual conditions or equipment issues to leadership.
  • Participate in 6S (Sort, Set in order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain, Safety) activities to support continuous improvement and workplace efficiency.
  • Collaborate with team members and leadership to meet production goals and quality standards.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned by leadership or required by operational needs.
