About The Position

The Sexual Assault Advocate In Trainee position is designed to provide compassionate support and guidance to survivors of sexual assault while developing the skills necessary to become a fully qualified advocate. This role involves learning to offer crisis intervention, emotional support, and resource navigation to individuals affected by sexual violence. The trainee will work closely with experienced advocates and multidisciplinary teams to understand the complexities of trauma-informed care and advocacy. The ultimate goal is to empower survivors by ensuring they have access to appropriate services and feel supported throughout their healing journey. This position serves as a foundational step toward a career dedicated to advocacy, education, and prevention within the community. Schedule is Monday through Friday 8am to 5pm with a 60-minute unpaid lunch/break period. Flexibility needed based on client needs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in related field required
  • Demonstrated commitment to supporting survivors of sexual violence or vulnerable populations.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment in sensitive situations.
  • Willingness to participate in ongoing training and professional development.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience or coursework in social work, psychology, counseling, or related fields.
  • Familiarity with trauma-informed care principles and crisis intervention techniques.
  • Volunteer or work experience in advocacy, victim services, or community outreach.
  • Basic knowledge of legal and medical systems related to sexual assault response.

Responsibilities

  • Provide empathetic, confidential support to survivors of sexual assault through active listening and crisis intervention.
  • Assist in educating survivors about their rights, available resources, and options for medical, legal, and emotional support.
  • Participate in training sessions and supervision meetings to develop advocacy skills and trauma-informed approaches.
  • Collaborate with healthcare providers, law enforcement, and community organizations to coordinate comprehensive care for survivors.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records of client interactions and services provided in accordance with organizational policies.
