About The Position

The Eugene Water & Electric Board (EWEB) is looking for a Power Settlements Analyst to join our Power Risk and Settlements team. In this key role, you will support EWEB's power supply portfolio by handling settlement and accounting functions for energy transactions, including electric power, transmission, environmental commodities, and ancillary services. You will work closely with internal teams and external counterparties to ensure accurate billing, resolve discrepancies, and maintain compliance with market and contract requirements. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to the ongoing improvement of EWEB's settlement processes and systems. The ideal candidate will be highly analytical and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage complex data and perform accurate reconciliations in a fast-paced environment. You'll be comfortable working both independently and collaboratively, applying your problem-solving skills to identify discrepancies and drive improvements in settlement processes. Developing a strong understanding of energy markets and the ability to work with EWEB's Energy Trading and Risk Management (ETRM) system will be key to success in this role.

Requirements

  • A strong analytical mindset with a natural curiosity for problem-solving, and the ability to work with complex data to identify discrepancies and ensure accuracy.
  • Effective communication skills to collaborate with both internal teams and external counterparties to resolve issues and ensure accurate billing.
  • Familiarity with energy markets, settlement processes, or financial accounting. Prior experience is a plus, but we value a willingness to learn and grow in this area.
  • A detail-oriented approach to managing large datasets and reconciling transactions accurately, with an eagerness to develop expertise in energy trading systems.
  • Comfort with using spreadsheets and analytical tools (such as Excel) to track, analyze, and report on data, with the ability to expand on these skills in the context of energy settlements.
  • A proactive and solution-oriented mindset, with the ability to think critically and adapt as processes evolve in a dynamic industry.
  • An understanding of regulatory market structures and energy trading systems, with a commitment to learning how to navigate these systems.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines while maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Two years of experience in data analysis, energy markets, utility operations, or a related analytical role.
  • Associates' degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Economics, or a related field.

Nice To Haves

  • Basic understanding of power trading and scheduling, power contracts and NERC tagging.
  • Strong computer skills are essential, with an emphasis on Excel and Allegro Horizon (ETRM).
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Economics, or a related field.
  • An equivalent combination of experience and education may be qualifying.

Responsibilities

  • Reconcile trade data, pricing, and volumes for wholesale energy, transmission, and environmental commodity transactions using EWEB's ETRM system.
  • Prepare, validate, and issue invoices for energy transactions, ensuring alignment with contractual terms and market requirements.
  • Research and resolve discrepancies in billing and trade data, collaborating directly with counterparties and internal teams to resolve issues.
  • Reconcile and validate external invoices from counterparties, brokers, and service providers.
  • Compile and analyze Energy Imbalance Market (EIM) data, providing summaries and insights for management review.
  • Maintain and balance monthly Sources and Uses reports to track energy generation, purchases, and sales accurately.
  • Prepare journal entries and financial reports related to power and environmental commodity activities, supporting cash flow forecasting and financial planning.
  • Support the testing and implementation of system updates and process improvements related to settlement and accounting functions.
