About The Position

Works on wastewater collections construction and where required will maintain, repair, and install wastewater system components. Has knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures set forth by the EPA/ Collection Systems industry standards in maintaining and operating wastewater collection system. Ensures that the wastewater /collections system is operational 24/7 which includes maintenance of pumps, conveyors, blowers, vacuum equipment, and other wastewater collection equipment are functioning properly. Has knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures. Process incoming service orders within a 24-hour time period.

Requirements

Graduation from High School or G.E.D; and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Valid Utah Class D driver's license.
Water Operator Certification Grade I within one year.
Wastewater Operator Certification Grade I within one year.
Wastewater Operator Certification Grade II within two years.
Wastewater Operator Certification Grade III within four years.
Wastewater Operator Certification Grade IV within six years.
Requires a working knowledge of the District's products and services; knowledge of short-range technical plans; basic knowledge of overall strategic long-range plans.
Must have the ability to plan, coordinate and implement the policies and procedures for the water division.
Must be able to make decisions of a significant nature impacting the water production and distribution maintenance and be able to meet the customer service responsibilities for this position.
Must demonstrate safety leadership by promoting and facilitating the safety of co-workers and the general public.
Must perform all job tasks in compliance with MWD safety policies and procedures.
Must be able to rely on policy, written guidance or internal discussions to resolve problems.
Must have verbal skills to communicate effectively with employees and external business contacts.
Must have advanced skills with construction practices; advanced knowledge of utility locating equipment, blueprint reading, and redlining.

Nice To Haves

Wastewater sampling and testing experience preferred
One year of water utility service maintenance experience or in a related field preferred.
Heavy pipe construction equipment operation experience preferred.
Technical training in inspection, construction management or equivalent preferred.
Commercial Driver's License Class A tanker endorsement preferred, or to obtain the C.D.L within 90 days
Microsoft Word, Excel, and GIS experience preferred.
Knowledge of GPS equipment, computers and other computer software preferred.

Responsibilities

Advanced knowledge and use of instrumentation equipment and computer software such as MS Office Programs.
Ability to operate large machinery, backhoe, dump truck and excavator.
Ability to operate video and television monitoring equipment to perform diagnostics on wastewater lines.
Ability to use a high-pressure vacuum cleaner.
Heavy pipe construction equipment operation experience.
Multi-task oriented and ability to set priorities.
Well organized, accurate, and attentive to detail.
Ability to work as part of a team or individually.
Ability to maintain professional demeanor when answering customer inquiries.
Demonstrated customer service experience.
Demonstrated oral and written communication skills.
Ability to lift, on average, 30-50 lbs. daily.
