About The Position

As Machinist III, can independently operate and set-up multiple, large and complex manual and CNC equipment within an engineered to order manufacturing site. Consults with Operations or respective functions to resolve machine or assembly problems. May be considered as a subject matter expert for an assigned area and/or machine grouping.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of a variety of machining concepts, practices and procedures including machining using close tolerances and tooling
  • Knowledge of materials of construction by appearance, color code, and marking, and identify pipe, tubing, and fittings by type size, and material (as applicable)
  • Ability to review and interpret work order bill of materials, job allocations, and customer orders.
  • Ability to use various hand tools, power tools, overhead cranes, and lift trucks
  • Ability to use existing tooling and fixtures for machining workpieces
  • Ability to read, interpret and communicate safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, diagrams, and blueprints
  • Ability to work well with others and train in a team environment
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals, apply basic trigonometry and geometry concepts
  • Proficiency in a variety of software programs
  • May require intermediate to advanced programming knowledge
  • Five or more years related experience and or training; certification from college or technical school; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Regularly required to stand and walk. Frequent repetitive hand and arm movements. Occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities are required for this job including close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and equipment.
  • The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places, fumes or airborne particles; and outside weather conditions.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews complex shop prints or instructions to understand specifications of output
  • Completes set ups and operates manual and/or CNC equipment to set specified feeds, speeds and depth of cut
  • May operate more than one machine, in close proximity, during longer workpiece cycle time
  • Plans a sequence of necessary actions for the completion of a job
  • Performs diverse precision machining operations on manual and CNC equipment to as required by the part configuration and/or specification
  • Monitors output to ensure conformance and consistency with specifications
  • May install machined parts in machines and equipment, and tests operation of unit to ensure functionality and performance
  • Ensures quality specifications are met through use of various precision measuring tools and serve as a point of contact for troubleshooting
  • Trains others assist with set-up of machines, tools, jobs, and fixtures and proper selection of machine tools, speeds, feeds, and limits of each operation.
  • Performs machine maintenance, lubricating, oiling, cleaning, and minor repairs/calibrations according to applicable company and manufacturer operating standards
  • May maintain inventory levels for tools for specific area
